Ok, lets work this out, my observations are: Drone loses signal, Auto return home activates, drone carries on going for 3-5 seconds (no video feed to goggles while it does this), it realises, stops and waits and returns back to the point of loss of signal and THEN finally it turns around again and comes back home. Anyone else noticed it?

DJI need to fix this. I dont see the RTH rocky movememnt from the drone like some people are reporting though.  It pretty much does the same thing on the avata 1, always moves around slightly on its way back. Thats normal in my experience but the stop and start back to loss of signal, and turning around again before going home isnt right.

Retracing the route up to 50m back before losing signal is explained in the user manual.

Very odd behaviour. Whats the reason for it?

I personally think it's a fantastic feature. Imagine flying into woods, or a cave, or a building and losing signal. The aircraft will try to retrace its steps back in hopes of letting you re-acquire signal and taking over control. If not, it will start a normal RTH procedure. If it just went straight into normal RTH, it could crash into a tree canopy/roof of cave/building.

It's a feature, not a bug.  On signal loss, the Avata 2 retraces the last 50 meters of the flight route in an attempt to reestablish the link.  If this fails it then initiates RTH.  DJI has been doing this on many of their birds since at least the Mavic 2.

if the first Avata was doing this I'd avoid this fall, so I am happy with this RTH!

What a great location!  Actually, the Avata 1 does have this feature.  Perhaps in your case the goggles lost connection but not the drone?

Yep, goggles lost connection, I push back and it moves but RTH kicks in and Avata starts climbing and hit the ceiling So she did not do this for sure!
