Thanks Gennacide and Tahoe_Ed for getting back to me. I flew with it on yesterday and seemed to be a lot more fluid and less choppy than before. I'll be airborne this weekend, and I plan to do multiple tests.
I was getting unacceptable quality with iPad mini 2 on my first flights until I turned on 'enable hardware decode' (and dropped the image transmission quality down as well) and now its all good.
like I said, I changed two settings, so it may do nothing (but from what I've read on forums the hardware decoding setting is for iPad, so I just assumed it was for the graphics processor or something. I could be wrong and its just the reduced image transmission quality that helped my problem. I'll try it both ways

The hardware decoder is really for the iPad Air2 with the A8 processor. The other processors do not ...
Funny, I have an Ipad Air2 and have always had the Hardware decoder switched off, after reading some posts from July, last year. I've had zero issues with it off.
