I have my own thoughts to this but I would be interested to see the thoughts and comments of everybody here based on a Side by Side of "Specs" between the two products. Yes I am aware Inspire has dual controllers, unobstructed 360 degree camera rotation capability, retracting flight landing gear, carbon fiber wing structure, etc etc.. yes there are some "individual feature" differences.....  but yeay there is a bit that is disconcerting to me to this launch as a I1 owner as a hobbyist who spends money to get "the best available" to do it right the first time. But does it really merrit a $2K+ price difference for a base model dual controller Inspire?

Here are facts as posted on the DJI site-

Thank You!! i just placed an order for the phantom 3 professional from B&H photo NY for 1295!! as a back up for my Inspire 1

Another way to look at it is it lowers my total cost for a backup...
It is the same price PER GRAM each bird  :-)

I was wondering from the details on the DJI site of the P3, will these functions be available to I1 owners as an update:

Yes thanks PureSQNut for laying this chart out. Makes it easy to compare.

Arunmehta, I'm guessing the additional GLONASS lock is what is increasing the hover accuracy on the P3? if so it would be a great firmware update- hello DJI talking to you here- (if possible or is there a chipset involved?) for us I1 owners.

Thanks for the chart.  I am too a bit annoyed at how good the new P3 is  being an Insp1 owner =).
The GLONASS is a winner and def. one up on the Inspires GPS which "fails" from time to time.

Having just bought the Inspire 1 a few weeks ago, I am beyond peeved at the P3. How the hell does DJI justify a $1500 price difference when they are so similar? If I was buying today there isn't a chance in hell I'd buy an Inspire 1. I feel totally ripped off. Yes, the Inspire 1 is better in some aspects, but not $1500 better. Especially since the P3 has some advantages over the Inspire that balance things out a bit.

In fact, one of the main reasons I was attracted to the Inspire 1 is indoor flight, but it's really too big for a lot of indoor situations that the P3 is much better suited for. Turns out even the P2 without visual positioning is better than the Inspire for many indoor flying situations. Since I don't have two controllers the only real advantage of the Inspire for me is never having to worry about the props getting in my shot. I wonder if DJI figured out a way to prevent that from happening with the P3. If so I'd probably sell my Inspire for a loss and get the P3 instead.

I do have a question though that wasn't answered in the first post. Can the Inspire 1 live stream? I know the P3 can but it seems to me that this is a function of the app rather than the drone. So if they both use DjI Pilot I assume both can stream. And I assume that you can also edit Inspire 1 video using the app, but I'm not sure how useful that feature is.

Can anyone definitively answer the question about streaming?

It is certainly kind of wierd that they are saying the Inspire Remote and Camera along costs about the same as the entire P3.

Am I the only one who thinks that doesn't add up?
ALSO, does the P3 have a gimbal or not?   I know it doesn't pan but does it smooth out motion and so on?   I wouldn't trade my Inspire for it but it is WAY too close to the Inpire specs at WAY too big a discount...

...does DJI actually monitor and participate on these forums?  I've read pages of this thread, and as a duped I1 owner, share everyone's frustration!

The I1 were launched as a 'lighthouse product', but much of it's strategic advantage and differentiation were wiped of the board with the P3 announcement!

I just can't see them having made such an enormous product strategy and roadmap blunder without having thought this through.  It's critical DJI distribute a news release to all I1 owners ASAP!

I started off with a phantom 1 at just over $1K AUD the quickly had invested in a S800 spreadwings and invested around $6K AUD just before they released the S800 EVO.  Folding Prop and transportation was a huge advantage.
I have been using these for different tasks and late last year waited with anticipation for the Inspire1. As an engineer what I have noticed with the platforms my employer has also purchased (fixed wing and rotor) is the increase in technology and capability with a general decline in the price, discounting the drop in the Aussie dollar obviously which has pushed even the price of pencils up.

The P3 represents a strong learning curve by DJI and they have been relatively honest by passing on the manufacturing and assembly upskill of the workforce. Once the SDK L2 is accessible the Inspire will become one of the most capable UAV's commercially available and a platform for DJI to make the next innovative leap forward.

I would like to see DJI with these great platforms now invest some capability in resolving the known issues and supporting the customer base a little now that the FedEx trucks are rolling. No device issues personally but look at any thread and revise any of the great commercial flops in the last 15 years - customers can and do walk.

I am sure there is some holes in my details above as this was only based on the "Specs" page and there is a lot of inconsistencies in their product spec format from product to product so I had to do some relay out of their format as it was to make a side by side possible. But the data is only what is listed on their specs page so if there is content missing please let me know and I will update it.

Jim,

Yeah the math just isn't adding up.

You know, I may have answered my own question about props staying out of the shot on the P3. I think on the P2 the only reason the props get into the shot is due to the GoPro's super wide angle lens. I don't think props are a problem on P2 Vision/Vision+.

If I'm right about that, the I1 has no true benefit for me over the P3. However, the P3 has numerous advantages for me over the I1. Now, if I had a dedicated camera operator (I wish I did) then the I1 would be infinitely better.

Nobody knows if the Inspire will be able to live stream?

Now this is totally OT but anyone know if the P3 uses the same batteries as P2?

I hope the P3 suffers from every single issue the I1 suffers from. Otherwise there will be a lot of PISSED I1 users as that would be a good indication of where they spent the majority of their engineering time on a cheaper product vs taking care of their customers who invested in a premium product like the I1. But that would be wrong wouldn't it?    Not that im endorsing becuase its cheaper it should have issues FWIW.

also must take in account the repair difference , a lot of dealers can repair phantoms but you have to send your inspair to china and wait more than a month .  not to mention the battery and parts price difference

Would be a nice touch with inspire1 frustrated customers for example give a really reduce price for the supposed new M4/3 camera ...very disappointed with dji as usual :@:@

I had a little birdie (Basically two separate very disgruntled dealer/service centers that got an email from DJI about policy changes coming up) tell me when I was calling about order status for other products etc that this status was changing for the Phantoms as well and all would be required to be sent to the same location as the Inspires for repair in the coming near future.

I am not sure if its simply a rumor but coming from two different and obviously not happy DJI dealers in two different parts of the country there might be "some" level or part" of truth to it. And given some of the decisions that DJI has been making lately I wouldn't be surprised. But only time will tell.
