I just want a percentage of Apple and Android users for the DJI PHANTOM series. What do you currently USE and prefer for your OS? I AM NOT looking to start a Apple vs. Android debate. I realize that they both have pros/cons. I also understand that Apple iOS is easier to develop/update apps because of the closed system/no fragmentation. I am just curious if there are more of one than the other.  In a way, I am glad Apple users get the first round of "real world testing" but I am also jealous that I don't get the new DJI Go app yet!

I have updated all firmware as of yesterday and my Samsung Galaxy S6 edge still has really choppy video as soon as it takes off.  It lags very bad, so I have to switch to my wife's Apple 6 and problem solved.  This seems to be a huge issue with most Android devices and until they get it fixed, I would stay away from Android.  

Differences between the two versions are really 'heavy'. Android version is barely usable to shoot...

I have a 8.4, 10.1 and a note 4. All of them work perfectly and now with the update, I was able to turn the play services. There is no heat buildup either. The 4 and 10.1 or both on 5.0.1 and the 8.4 is on 4.x. I am perplexed why some have trouble with Android. What is you version OS? I wonder if it is newer than mine.

I am personally using the Android M developer preview on my Nexus 7 2013 Wifi, and haven't had any issues at all yet. Still in my first week, but have been flying daily.

I use android Nexus 7 (2013) with Lollipop 5.1.2 and have no issues with dji pilot v 1.2.0 I do put the tablet in airplane mode and kill other apps just as a precaution.  I have Google maps downloaded for offline use in the areas that I fly.

And I have the complete opposite experience. Runs great on my Galaxy S5 and I tried a friends iPad Mini 3 to see all the hype about Apple and it overheated on us.

With downgraded Google Play Services my Phantom 3 Pro with Android device works rock solid.
Fluent FPV, no lags. (1.3.20 and Lenovo S8-50L with DJI PIlot 1.2.0)

I have the Tab 4 and updated my Google play services and I have zero lag issues

All has been working well so far on my iPad Mini 2 with these settings:

I tried apple few times but the bugs there seem to affect me more.

Love the new Go App, and awesome updates of Firmware. Really pleased with everything so far.

Android on Huawei P8, when its not too hot outside it works very good, once the temperature rise a bit i have video lag :/

I just bought a iPad mini 3 and it is much better the my Samsung Galaxy s6.  Have only used it once but a far better picture on bigger screen and all the error messages have disappeared.

I just got my P3P last week. Did the update and Could not get my Nexus 6 to update the RC..  Wanted to get an IP anyway and I got an Ipad Mini 2 and have not had any problems..

I've used both.  Samsung Tab Pro 8.4, iPad Air2 and iPad Mini 3.   I like the apple version of the app best.   Returned the Air2, kept the Mini 3.  

I´ve used nexus 4 and nexus 10.
Nexus 4 works fine, but the nexus 10, the hd image is poor, why?  

I have a Nexus 9 that I bought to use with my P3P, but can't since the video is SOOOOOO choppy.  I've ended up having to load the Go app on my work iPhone 5s just so I can fly.  It would be nice if DJI could get their Android app sorted out.

Air2....works great.

i am using the s6 edge .. it was perfect on 2.0.1 go app when i upgraded to 2.0.2 i noticed that it goes grey and the connection to the drone interrupted many times in 20 mins flight without lunching the rth function ie: the connection between the rc and the drone still on !!! opinion ???

I have the Samsung 6 non-edge and after 10 minutes it gets sluggish and hitting an option takes 5-10 seconds to register.
I have heard iPad Air is the best? I am not a apple fan but considering

Has anyone used an iPad 3? I have an iPhone 5s and an iPad 4 as well but would like to dedicate the iPad 3 to this. My P3 gets here this week. Very excited.

I haven't tried any Apple devices, but I have tried 4 different Androids...Galaxy S3, Galaxy Mega, Galaxy Tab4A and Lenovo A8-50F.  The S3 and the Tab4A worked the best, Tab4A only being better due to the much larger screen.  S3 worked fine, but the screen is so small it isn't useful at all.  The Galaxy Mega worked okay until I got about 200 or 300 ft away, then it got really choppy and even locked up.  The worst was the Lenovo A8-50F, it was choppy at about 50 to 100 ft, it got real slow in response to anything on the DJI GO app, and it locked up then crashed multiple times.  The S3 and the Mega have KitKat (version 4.4) and the Lenovo and Tab4A both have Lollipop (version 5.0.1) I am running DJI Go version 2.0 or higher on all of them.  I plan on trying some Apple devices later, and I ordered one of those Windsurfer Antenna Boosters as well...others on this forum said they helped with both range and video quality, for $30 what can it hurt, right?

Sorry mate, the iPad 3, has too slow of a processor.
You need one with A7 CPU or A8X like the iPad Air 2 contains.
Or an iPad Mini 2. Preferably one with Cellular, So you get the built in GPS.
You don't have to activate the cell service to utilize the GPS.

captbill5491, you'll need an iPad Mini 2 or 3. Both have the same processor. The difference between the two is that the iPad Mini 3 has a thumbprint scanner.

If you want to use features that require GPS on your device (e.g. resetting the home point to your current position), then you'll need the cellular version of the iPad Mini (and not the Wi-Fi only model). Only cellular models come with GPS. You do not need to activate the cell service in order to use the GPS.

Thanks guy! Looks like I'll be getting an iPhone 6+ which I assume will work just fine? It also has a larger screen which is what I want. Or I could get an iPad Air or air 2 or the mini 2, correct? I see these as my choices.  My iPhone 5s works great but it's just a little too small....maybe I could use some cardboard 3D glasses with it? Hmm.....I may try that. Thanks again! Happy droning!

Update google play services to latest 8.1.115

I prefer android. More freedom.
However DJI loves Apple products.., so I bought an iPad Air 2 just for my drone.., but follow me doesn't work (need GPS).
So yea, stuffed myself there. I just hope they bring out a lily wristband soon.

Anyway.., go Apple for your drone if you want a hassle free flight.
I found this on the Phantom 3 box. "Designed to connect specifically to iPhone or iPad."
This, plus the fact that DJI Pilot kept crashing every 2nd day on my "Recommended android device" (S5, factory reset) made it clear that DJI loves apples over oranges.
Plus I think DJI GO came out for Apple first. And the flight sim is only for Apple too.
There must be a saying at DJI HQ. "An apple a day keeps the..., whatever. Android sux."

How do I download the google maps for the area i want to fly?  I am heading back into the mountains of LA County this weekend and there is no cell service at 7109 feeet, so downloading the maps would rock.
