So -  I really need a lens hood on my P3P. It's not possible to get decent shots without flares or prop interference even in light backlit sunny conditions - which for me is a bummer since those conditions can be so beautiful if planning your shots carefully. I don't understand why DJI don't include a lens hood - after all the camera is almost up to professional standards, especially the wide angle lens, but it's not a professional product without a dedicated lens hood. Every serious DSLR wide angle lens comes with a delicately designed lens hood and it would NOT add anything to the cost! So I fiddled around with cardboard for some time, adjusted, readjusted, finte-tuned - and came up with this. The shape takes into consideration the nature of the wide angle lens and gives you almost linear blinds. I have NOT tested it yet, so it's still theory! - but will keep you up-to-date! Of course, despite the lens turning its nose down when powered off, the gimbal motors have no issue holding it since it's so light. However you need to power P3 up with plenty of space beneath the camera to let the camera do its calibration routine without hitting anything. For example placing it on your backpack over some of the cuttings. Or simply mount it when powered on. If I succeed with this design I can provide a PDF for you so you just print and cut!

And here is some aerial comparison - two different days, but about the same time of the day. It worked really well and didn't fly off!

OK - here comes the drawing. It's by no means "scientificly" correct, just what I ended up with by simple try-and-fail - and it works for me. It's light and cheap and you don't need a 3D printer ;-) Try it out and let me know if it works. And please feel free to modify the PDF!

Maybe it's easiest to print it on some heavy weight white paper (Letter or A4) and use that as a template for cutting the black cardboard.

Get some 2mm black craft foam.

That's what I have, but mine is day glow green and florescent orange, probably not the best color choices...
Left over from making archery targets.... I will need to buy a sheet of matte black.

That's a good one, but it won't be me doing the sharp shooting.
I don't shoot anything I can't eat... Other than my targets. ;-)

Anyway, all my arrows have my home phone number, in indelible ink.
Any funny business, and I would hear about it...

It definitely helps.  But I would try to keep it light weight.  You don't want to put extra strain on the gimbal motors.  Black paper might be the best option...

Just made one out of a black duotang binder , looks sweet ..

Can you take this on and off easily?  I'm assuming you have it OFF for the startup gimbal sequence.

UPDATE!

I just received the PolarPro six-pack collection and adapted my previous sunhood design to match those excellent filters. It adds a little extra weight so results are still to be seen! But gimbal seems to not struggle at all. If succesfull I provide you with the PDF and a video tutorial! Materials needed: White self adhesive labels, black 190 g cardboard, a glue stick, ruler, pencil, hobby knife and/or scissors!

i tried this but found it shows up on photos but is fine with the video 16x9 footage.
