I came within inches of smashing my drone into the cliffside! Object avoidance saved the day by the hair on my chin! Whoa... Check out the near miss here

Flying in that area, I would have set RTH altitude at 90m, just to be safe

Nice! That was an impressive save! Do you know what the speed has been during RTH?

Thanks for your sharing ,DrTones. But it is recommended to set an appropriate RTH altitude before flight.

Was you RTH altitude set wrong?

It should make no difference that you were in negative altitude, since the RTH value is relative to your home point, not the aircraft's current altitude.  So, if you take off from the top of a ridge & descend say 50ft into the valley below, when RTH kicks in, the aircraft will first ascend to 65ft (20 metres) above the home point, so 50+65=115ft from it's current position, which should be over your head.  It will then continue to ascend to your RTH altitude above the home point before heading home.

I assume the aircraft recordered a new home point before take-off?

Does the copter knows to fly higher or left or right if it is meet with an obstruction on its own? What is the algorithm for the AI to clear the obstruction?

Great close-up of the structure of those rocks and auto focus worked well.
Nice one.

There is no auto-focus.  The lens is set to (or near to) it's hyperfocal distance.  It doesn't adjust.

Cool - It is certainly far better than a few on here who seem to be having troubles with focus and all sorts of exposure/colour problems.

IIRC the RTH altitude was set to the default 30 m value.
He just flew behind the hill (which has a hight of approx. 32m above his T/O point) and lost R/C connection...
RTH and collision avoidance did a good Job!

Yes, it did its job.  But he mentioned going into negative altitude, which is irrelevant.

That is true. A meanwhile negative altitude readout does not influence the RTH behaviour regarding the set altitude. So I got your point.
I just wanted to explain that this somewhat spectacular incident is based on normal circumstances and nicely shows that DJI's anti collision RTH worked as it should.

Ok, yes I see your point.  It's just a shame on this video he puts it down to the wrong reason.  With such an authoritative voice, may people will see this video & believe everything he says.  This seems to happen a lot on Youtube, where all you need to do is sound like you know what you're talking about & people take it as fact.  They then make their own video with the same false information, re-enforcing the first  error.

It's ironic that such bad piloting can potentially influence so many people!
