I was thinking on selling my Vision+ and getting a Phantom 2 and buying a Gopro Hero 4 Black.   Any downsides?

It's going to cost you more money especially if you want Ground Station. I guess your looking for better pictures/video?

Yes,  I feel the quality on the Vision+ camera to be lacking.    I am also interested in 4K video.   

Ground Station app doesn't work with the Hero mounted?

The Vision app ONLY works with the Vision Phantoms.
If you go for a Phantom 2 and H4-3D you will still need a FPV set-up and the Bluetooth data link for PC ground station.

Let me know what you come up with as a list as I am considering this as my next purchase, as for selling my existing P2V v3.0, jury is still out, it has been very reliable and still does a decent job with the PICTS and video and it could always be used for parts/parted out if I needed to.
If your camera and Gimbal are in good shape you could get some decent value for that I am sure.

I had a P2V+  but now I have P2 and Hero 4 Black and even at 1080 30 fps the image quality is far superior.  My computer isn't fast enough to edit 4k so I haven't shot in it yet but I'm sure it will be incredible.

Can you save me some research and give me your setup?   What did you use for FPV and Ground Station?

I have the new Vision 2 + and have installed the quick disconnect kit. I can now fly with no camera/gimbal and use the vision app to track the drone on the map view,still see all readings like height,distance,speed,sats,battery,etc !! I can install the vision + camera/gimbal & the Gopro 4/gimbal in 10 seconds and use all the app functions.
It is a great kit,takes 5 mins to install. Great for practice,no camera/gimbal to damage.
The vision + camera/gimbal work 100% the same as before,fully controlled with the app.
The GoPro Black 4/gimbal can be moved with the slider knob (same as the vision +) and the camera works fpv.
Most people turn on the GoPro before flying but i have the new go pro smart remote which works up to 200m. So you can change from 4k to any of the other setting from distance.
So the GoPro 4/gimbal work the same as the vision + camera,fully contolled by the app. Camera works,maps,works.Only the camera can be moved up and down,side to side. (taking vidos/photos is done with the smart remote)

You need the quick release kit and the sleeve for your camera/gimbal. (Either Vision + so you can use the one it came with or the Zenmuse for GoPro. (Or get both ) Also select your drone type as they can also supply a gimbal control for the older type.

The sleeve is the white assy connected to the gimbal that slides on and off,see my pic above in last post)

Just flown with new software v3.12 and it works as they say. You can slow the landing down and reposition to safer position during automatic landing.
Thank god they got rid of v3.10 !!!!!!!!

$1500 ?  I just did a check and for the quick release kit and the sleeve for the GoPro 4 its $408 inc shipping to USA !! (For the V+ v3)

Yes, I Came up with your same math from their website.
I think he added the RX100ll/lll into it, as I can see that is for DSLR cameras hook ups which I don't need.

Of course you have the added costs of the GoPro (if you want it) and the Zenmuse Gimbal (if you want it)

I am getting the GoPro Hero 4 Black anyway and for other reasons so this is definitely a kit I will have in the very near future..

Ahhh,  I misunderstood which connector I needed.     Thanks for posting.   Seems like a good investment rather than switching birds.   This plus the Hero 4 will still save me some money.

Also check out the GoPro smart remote. Works up to 200m and saves flying all the way back to change settings or filming in just video mode. The remote is ok for the Vision + but not the phantom 2. (Different wifi)
It fits perfect on the controller. The GoPro 4 black is awesome,even better when used with the phone app and the smart remote.

I thought I read that you shouldn't use wifi on the go pro.

An option to the Quickrelease is the 'Do it Yourself' mod.
I removed and sold my Vision+ camera and used the money to get a Hero4 Silver and H3-3D gimbal. There is a mod (takes about 2 hours) to install it on the Vision+. I still get FPV video and all telemetry on the Vision app. I can still tilt using the tilt-wheel on the controller.
Very happy with the results! The mod is on RCgroups

I also have the QuickRelease and like the setup very much. It's nice to be able to fly without a camera sometimes, or swap cameras based on lighting conditions etc.

I opted for both the P2V3 sleeve and the GoPro sleeve. The downside is the increased weight and the wait time (about 3 weeks). I have a more info on my website.

the quick release is US$450, or as we like to call it, half the price of a complete Phantom.  I'd put the money toward a 2nd bird.  

Also, even though the camera on the Vision+ is not as good a quality as the go pro i would buy the Vision+ or an Inspire if i was doing it all over again, use my samsung as the FPV display, and learn on it.  I bought the 2 with H33D gimbal for $950 then spent another $1000 on the FPV rig and assorted gear, so i'm within $600 of an inspire.  True, i would die if i crashed the Inspire like I have the Phantom, but...  And I also have a Futaba RC unit plus the stock DJI RC unit as a backup.

I dont know about this, you can buy another phantom 2 for that price i guess. It looks good from the materials but you have still a 5.8 GHz remote, so u need 2.4ghz fpv TX/RX. Phantom prices will be dropping even more in a month when the P3 will probably arrive.
