Sometimes...mostly when indoors and there are a lot of surrounding interferences. Other than that, nope.

Hi Guys,

I purchased some prop guards from Amazon, tried using them for the first time last night and found that they set off the obstacle avoidance sensor.  I wondered if the official ones have them same issue and maybe it's because they are made by a third party company?

I would be a whole lot happier to use them...IF they were able to fit into the flymore bag. I wouldnt even care if I had to take them off to get them to fit, but the very fact that I can not easily take them with me really annoys me

Generally I'll not have them - exception being when my kids are running about.

Than you  aren't carrying something that I am carrying. I want the fly more case to carry everything. It does except for the prop guards.

I don't plan on using them.....they are just something more to take extra time preparing to fly.  Additionally, the Spark won't fit in the FLY MORE bag with them installed so it takes time to take them off in order to pack up the Spark when you are done flying.  I love how quick the Spark can be taken out of the bag to take a quick shot without having to do much more than turn it on.

Yeah but it is not much extra time, I tested this yesterday afternoon, it took me less than 30 seconds to attach all 4 prop guards.

Taking them off was about the same time as well.
And with Careful packing, I find they fit in the Fly More bag as well.

Now I use the prop guards all the time because they are just an extra barrier to prevent something from interfering with the blades, causing the spark to fall.

I have the OEM ones from the Fly More pack.  I have not had them trigger the obstacle avoidance sensor.

I used them for the first few flights until I got comfortable with the spark.  Otherwise unless I'm flying inside, no.

i seen someone yesterday at the park flying a spark in over 60kph of wind hahaha, that thing was holding up fairly well but i would never try it. i don't know if the prop guards would make a difference to flying in the wind but i figured it might?

definitely shakes more in wind with the prop guards

No-one mentions the most useful aspect of prop guards: they make the spark much more visible at long distances (> 600 feet)

Use it indoors. Outdoors, i make sure i fly in open area wide enough. If close area (small garden), then i will use it.

I think the prop guards are great to have as an option. When in wide open areas they are not necessary but if you are in an area (like indoors) or there is a possible amount of interference in the area (like trees) it is better safe than sorry."

Perfect response

You need the prop guards indoor and flying over the water for the life jacket... if you want to recover your dron and guarantee when it falls from the sky

I was shooting some video indoors and I would highly recommend using them indoors. The Spark's compass can be easily distracted indoors and it saved my props multiple times.

However outside - I highly recommend not using them when there is a bit of wind. Spark can hold the place in wind easily, but with prop guards on it has troubles.

No can't see any use for them myself, however I think it would be easy to catch your finger by palm launch so might be worth getting this if you use palm launch/land a lot : http://amzn.to/2tKIYKf or it might be able to be 3D printed?

I purchased the "FLY LESS" package and found the 3D printer files online. They work, but my confidence has grown and Im too lazy to put them on most of the time

I bought the basic package, because I was impatient and wanted my spark quickly. I ordered the prop guards, but they got here weeks later after I was very confident with the drone. The only time I used them was when I flew it to record my Marching band students rehearsing. I felt better with the extra protection just in case some student decided to get too close. However, I felt that the performance of the drone dropped with the prop guards on. From here on out, I'll probably just use prop guards inside.
