New DJI GO Update just released (06.27.2017).  Unfortunately its very vague on what issues it addresses.

That's why I used the term "vague" in my initial post

Posted by DJI in the DJI Go app update notice thread last week. ---> "The new version of DJI GO ensures your drone has the proper geofencing data and other geospatial information for the area where you are operating. It does not change any operating parameters for your drone. Once you log into the new version of DJI GO, your drone should operate exactly the same as it did before the update."

Still quite vague but at least it's a little more info than just "bug fixes".

You guys are talking DJI GO update but I have an iPhone app update for DJI GO 4 that is version 4.1.3.244.   Anyone else get that?  I have both apps on my phone...Go and Go 4...only the Go 4 shows an update.

Anybody aware of when DJI GO 4 will support standard IPAD 3rd Gen ( not Pro.)?

I doubt the iPad 3 has enough processing power to run DJI Go reliably. I wouldn't risk my aircraft or the safety of people nearby by using a setup that could potentially lead to loss of control, but that's just me.

haha that was funny :]
No offence but half of Android users have problem with the app just crashing and  I am no Fan-boy but i think the bigger Half of users use Android just because of market share
So the funny thing that Risk you are talking about take place every where every time :]

oh heck yes. I'm on a Samsung S8+ and since DJI doesn't support it, I've gone back to using my old iPhone 6 Plus (which is supported) which works much more reliably than any of my Android devices. I had an iPad mini 3 that pretty much wasn't playing nice, so that got decommissioned from any activity involving DJI Go

When connect directly to mobile, the distance and height is limited to 30x50 m. That is in visual range. Map is not needed.

It is limited to 50/100m. Not 50/30. This is when you flying without app or not logged in.
And it is nice to have to check the exact orientation or position of the aircraft. You can only guess the position in 80m distance if you want above a specific point.

So there is no need to remove a function which worked really well.

Ken,

Thanks for reply on this. Interesting , now may have to buy a new Ipad or iphone before I consider a Spark. Big shame.

I know. On the upside, if you're not overly particular, a used iPhone 6 Plus is pretty good value if you just need a simple display. I haven't seen much difference in performance between an iPhone 6 Plus and a mini 4/ Air 2 / iPhone 7 Plus where DJI Go 4 is concerned. Yet.

Ken,
For the avoidance of doubt, can I buy a Spark and use it entirely without a compatibe phone.
In other words never using the DJI GO app (even for setup) .

In other words just with the DJI Remote or hand gestures?

Many thanks if you could reply to this

Nope.

You will only need the phone to
- activate and register the Spark
- activate Gesture control (default out of the box is off), and
- update aircraft firmware (a one-off thing if you never connect your Spark to the phone again),  and
- use intelligent flight modes (helix, rocket, dronie, activetrack, tapfly, etc).

After that, if you don't have your phone on you, you can still
- do a PalmLaunch,
- control the drone using gesture control
- land the drone on your hand.

Keep in mind that that photos taken in gesture mode are only 2 MP and not 12 MP. Also, if the Spark drifts due to wind, you might want to pull out the phone to guide it back to where you are.

While I often just fire it up for a quick selfie (for fun), it's nice to know that I can do more if I need/want to by turning on Wifi on my phone and taking control to do more advanced shots.

Ken,

Many thanks and I think this also means that the Spark remote controller can be used without a phone/tablet.

i.e no use on its own without a phone slotted in?

@hamiltos I know that Ken has answered your question in regards to having to use the Spark with a phone/tablet.  But just out of general curiosity,  how would you expect to take a picture/video without a device to frame it with?  Apart from the gesture selfie method.

The Spark remote works just fine without a phone/tablet connected. You can take off, control the Spark, land. You won't be able to use Intelligent Flight modes as that requires a display to access the modes and configure the parameters.
