What do you think, will Dji upgrade the Spark's camera to 4k or 2.7k or something like 1080p 60fps. This could be technically possible because the censor size in the Spark's camera is the same as the Mavic Pro's censor size. And if DJI will do this, will it be for free or wil it be an additional cost? Post your opinions and comments here.

Sensor SIZE does NOT mean same pixel density ................ 65" TV-screens can be Full HD or 4K but You can´t upgrade a Full HD screen to 4K by software

Its in size and i mpx (12Mpx) but to handle 2.7 o 4k recording there have to be computing power , and i don't think there is . But maybe like there was wit P3 Standard they did update to 2.7 in software as i remember.
But there have to be some diffrence in Spark Pro or Spark 2 so you know .....

My guess is that DJI use the 'spare' resolution to stabilise the third axis and therefore full 4K will not be possible.

I don't get the purpose of this thread...the Spark is a $500  "Story Telling"/entry level DJI platform.  Which IMO the $500 price it too much for what it is.  If you want the capability of 4K move up to a Mavic or P4P.  I sure they DJI could have "beefed up" to Spark in order to accommodate 4K, but now the $500 price becomes $700 (or whatever).

Secondly, I would prefer for DJI to work out the current issues with the Spark (i.e. WIFI)

Agree with this completely, the priority for DJI should be fixing and improving WIFI stability

I doubt the Spark will ever increase resolution or frame rate.
Going up a resolution means the Spark will be capturing in 4K and resolution cropping to 2.7K on the fly. This means a lot of computing power.

You really need to see how DJI has marketed the spark - sold without controller, palm launch, 1080p@30fps, video is saturated, no RAW/DNG. This is all bout s(e)izing the moment. They dont want the user to spend countless hours on post or hours uploading a 4K vid.

I doubt we will ever see 4K from this, and I don't mind. What I do hope for, and think we will see soon enough, is 1080p/25 to comply with PAL standards. Not 24p, and doubt 60p.

Since the camera can technically do 4K. Why not give users the option to enable 4K recording but disable tracking / EIS capability when running in 4K.

This kind of trade-off option exists on many phones. So it must be doable on the drone.

But DJI is not known for charity does it?  Stop this nonsens . If you want 4K go buy Mavic.

Spark has the same sensor as the mavic but the image cropped for digital stabilization - hence the 1080p.
I'd rather have excellent 1080 than crappy 4K.

I agree on great 1080p over crappy 4K, but I wonder if DJI could provide a software switch to allow the user to set this, or if this is built into the camera hardware.

Charles, interesting thought. So you would end up with 4K but unstabelized, would stabilizing in post reduce it back to 1080?

I doubt it.  I'm not a camera expert, but I think that the camera is using it's constant signal of image (many images over a span of time) to stabilize, whereas in post production you have one large image with problems related to focus or other defects.  I think the camera needs a constant (though changing) image with which to process and stabilize.

This is a completely and totally unqualified thought
