No, my P2 knows when its power is low and will give me a warning that if I don't come home now there might not be enough to complete the journey.  This is a generic warning and is the same if the copter is 5 yards or 5 mile away, from that point on the light turn red  and stay that way.

If you have enabled RTH on low battery then yes the quad will indeed stop flying and return home when the battery traced a low level, you will also see a warning on the app with the option to cancel the RTH.

There is a battery that will transmit your flight time left for the P2.

I am not sure but I think us Non Vision have to guess how far the Low Battery level will carry the Phantom. I will look into that and maybe record some data over time.

Also I do not have FPV with Iosd so I really don't know how far the bird is.

Yes I have a timer App and really should use it until I get FPV. Not sure I will risk turning off the Battery Low RTH.

I know with my Phantom 1.1.1 when the battery got towards end the red light would vary.

if I was easy flying it stayed at green but if I pushed it harder or fast climb it would flash red and then if I eased off it would  go green.

off course at a point it stayed red and we come home.
really miss that fun little thing.(sold it , dummy me)
