How often does Go4 need to login so that flight is not restricted? Will WiFi only suffice if I routinely login at home, or is cellular access required to fly every time?

You only need to login once when you register and then you can fly in airplane mode!

So I only need a WiFi iPad Mini 4, not cellular? It saves me AU$200. I already have a Galaxy S7 phone but am unhappy with it's Go4 app. The iPad will only be for the Mavic.

I use the iPad mini 4 WiFi... Only real downside is that on iOS you cannot cache maps. So I tether to my pixel xl for internet.
Whatever maps it's using on iOS (possibly Google or apple) is wayyyyyyy better than here maps on android. Here maps is outdated and doesn't zoom in to a decent image in my areas.

So android has the advantage that you can cache maps (but it's here maps)
iOS you can't cache but it's much better if you can tether.

If you log in once with cellular or wifi you do not have to log in again unless you physically log out of your account.  Here is a mobile device compatibility list of Mavic for your reference. Mavic.png

It's not on the list but I'm guessing iPad Pro would be ok ?

Not pretty sure, since it isn't on the list. But if you have one in hand, you can try it.

Main advantage of cellular is GPS module so You will be able to set home point to Your controller instead of start point (useful if you are moving like being on a boat) and use follow fly mode

I thought gps was in the controller ? I'm not sure it's needed on device, I use a wifi only device and I can set to controller as home if needed etc....

No, there's no GPS receiver built into the Mavic's controller but only the aircraft itself.

Yup! Don't waste your money on cellular. As long as you fly in LOS, which you should do then no need for cellular.

I mainly use IPHONE6S+ but I also use MINI4 again, in AIRPLANE MODE.

Anyone ever try using a WiFI tablet connected to one of those mobile hotspots/MiFi-WiFi units?  Thats my plan once my iPad mini 4 arrives. As long as its connected to something that has a data connection the RTH should be able to be set to a location or the RC I would think.
