Hi, everybody

Newbie here and having some problem with corrupt videos.  Every time when I fly I always have 1 or 2 random videos that is corrupt.  I can't play it on my PC but the cache video version on my phone plays the video.  Have anybody out there run in to this type of problem before and if so what is the fix.  So far I have format the SD card on a PC and will try formatting it on the DJI GO 4 app.  Will see if formatting from the drone app fix this problem.

Hi, I have read somewhere that the formatting with the App writes some kind of validation data somewhere on the SD card, which formatting on the computer does not. Maybe the problem lies there. However, it is always a good idea to format a card in the device where it will be used...
--- Here: (this is just one of the places where I saw it)  https://phantompilots.com/threads/recommended-sd-card-format.85689/ third post. Hope this helps...

May I know it works or not after format the SD card via APP?
Just to verify, you stop recording firstly then turn off the drone, right?

I had the same issue and I had formatted in the app. The file is 800mb+ but it won't open in anything (including VLC). I tried to fix it with online tools but no joy. The filename was dji0022.mp4 but there were also two additional files - dji0022.mp4.avc and dji0022.mp4.frunc (I think - from memory) which I don't normally get.

thread about corrupted video files has been duplicated in a few place. Another one here : http://forum.dji.com/thread-104773-1-2.html

I experienced it twice with DJI provided SD card (Sandisk 16Gb) formated from DJI Go App right before flight.

It seems related to shutting down the drone without stopping recording first.

Please help me confirm whether you turn off the drone when it's still recording?
Thank you!

Sorry.. I got the file extension wrong. The second one should read xxxx.mp4.trinf. I just got another corrupt file and yes - I might have turned off the drone without stopping the recording first. Is there any way to recover the file?

Formatted the SD card from DJI Go App and tested out yesterday.  I made sure to stop the video recording after landing before turning the spark off.  Video came out fine, however I only could manage one flight of video recording due to weather.  I will have to try another day to fly and do multiple video recording because that's when the problem occurs when there is 2 or more video files in the card.  Then almost always one of the video files is corrupt.  Also to DJI Natalia what codec do you guys use on the cache video files because windows 10 64 bit cannot play that video natively,  I have to convert the video using video converter so I can extract the sound from that video when I'm editing.

I am having this exact same issue. At least 1-3 videos per flying session. I know I am stopping the recording before turning off the AC. I think there is an error in the FW that doesnt properly close the file on occasion.

Hello, as far as i'm concerned, I encountered the issue twice.
First time was only (and therefore last file of the flight session)
Second time was the last file of the flight session.
I don't remember if recording wasstopped properly.
DJI Natalia, I'll send you the corrupted files and provide links in PM

Looking into it more, it is a common DJI problem - not just an issue with the Spark.  It is supposed to "fix" the video file on the next power up but it doesn't seem to be doing that. I found a tool to fix the video (google DJIfix or go to http://djifix.live555.com/ (it's down as I type)).

Worked a treat for me but left me with a .h264 file instead of .mp4. I understand I can convert it back but I ran out of time before work this morning. Glad I was able to save the video!

as far as i'm concerned, I downloaded the video after the flight and then when I was sure that the issue did not occur at copy time (once throught the cable and once direct from SD) I deleted it from the card which of course fill prevent any "fix at next start"
And if this is a known issue  by DJI (or considered standard procedure in case they dare), then I'd like to have this figured in the manual... which is not.

Thanks for the clues... got another solution working :

https://www.videohelp.com/software/recover-mp4-to-h264
http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/

recover_mp4.exe DJI_0078.MP4 --analyze

where DJI_0078.mp4 is a non corrupted file

recover_mp4.exe DJI_0073.MP4 recovered.h264 --noaudio

where DJI_0073.mp4 was my corrupted file

ffmpeg.exe -r 30 -i recovered.h264 -c:v copy recovered.mp4

to recreate the non corrupted mp4

(all exe must be in the PATH environment variable or copied at same level as the video files)

https://www.videohelp.com/software/recover-mp4-to-h264

actally spoke a little too fast :

one of my 2 files get recovered with a few artefacts. The other one get recovered but is a huge artefact...

on the author site of recover_mp4 : http://slydiman.me/eng/mmedia/recover_mp4.htm

I can see that he has got a still private 2.04 version that may solve more issues... I'll try to get in touch with him.

Tool found at http://djifix.live555.com/ + ffmpeg is 100% working for me. I was able to recover both of my videos thanks to it.

The website seems nots always to be running : it was out yesterday anytime I tried to reach it, but it's up now.

Shame that DJI support or website does not link to it in FAQ's....

Under Linux, "untrunc" works for fixing this.

https://github.com/ponchio/untrunc

Of course, the real solution is for DJI to fix their firmware.

Sorry to hear about the trouble. To fix the MP4 video file, you have to follow the below steps using VLC to gain accessibility.
  • Firstly make the copy of original MP4 files
  • Next, rename that video file to AVI
  • Now, launch the VLC player and select VLC> Preferences>Input or Codecs>Save
  • Select the Always Fix option next to the Repair AVI Files
I hope the given solution will definitely going to help you out to fix your MP4 files issue in Windows PC. All the very best to you…
