Flying on the beach today and the spark was flying great until it suddenly flew off, over a main road and smashed into a building. I've had it fly off on its own before but have always been able lower altitude and bring it back. This is so dangerous and could have really hurt someone! Also, I did not fly over the water at any stage and did not have enough warning that gps was failing to bring it back.

Who do I contact at dji to have this looked at? I was about to take it on my 7 week road trip around the UK and Ireland.

Strange that your home point is "in"the water, did you have low tide?

You should first sync your flight to dji cloud.
If you want to find out what might have happened you can upload your flight log to link below just click on link and follow instructions. And come back here and post the link to your log.

I think he took off before getting GPS lock, flew over the water, when  the spark acquired enough satellites, it set home point over the water...

Home point is right at the start of the track so it was probably set before takeoff or very soon afterwards. He specifically stated that he wasn't flying over water "at any stage". Tide must have been out further than when map was acquired hence he was on the beach, not in the surf.

Sounds like some sort of malfunction that will be covered under warranty. If you have refresh they will probably try and stick you with that instead though.

Good luck.

Ah yes, it was low tide so that would make sense that it appears to be over the water. I'll check back in when I have more info. Fingers crossed it's covered under warranty!

Hi Cassettespark, looking at your log, two things you either picked up magnetic interference from the ground , were you taking off from concrete or was there metal close by. This can have serious effect on your compass, you may not have realised this when you were taking off and you don't always get a warning, or you may get a warning to move your spark because of interference, you could have also picked it up in the air if you were flying close to electrical wires or steel roof etc.

Because your compass is completely of the heading of the AC, while you are giving commands to go one way compass is pulling spark on its heading, gps gets confused basically gives up and spark goes into Atti mode this causes it to move on the wind any stick movements will increase the speed almost impossible to control raising the altitude may help avoid crash but unless you get gps back and try RTH , in such an area where spark was heading for buildings rather than down the beach probably impossible.

Regarding warranty, I have seen one similar case here where dji have given a warranty, I don't have any information why and dji are very protective of giving out this information, a bit ridiculous but if you get a warranty then I'm sure this is paramount for you.

When you send drone back, once they receive it get on to a mod here and try to get them to escalate your case, I will send you a link which might help you avoid this happening in the future.

Good luck..

Here is the case number CAS-822305-P0B6H1. They've received my spark so I'm just waiting on a verdict now.
