After the update of the App and the FW I was excited about the new start/stop Video recording gesture.
Unfortunately it doesn't work me.

I found this Video, so I am not alone with this. Anybody else having problems with the new gesture?

Doesn't work for me. With or without IPhone 7+ connected. No difference.

I think the reason why the gesture doesn't work after the away and follow gesture is the distance.
Reffering to the new Manual 1.4 you have to do the gesture within a distance of 2m!

I think you have to do the gesture before you wave the spark away. The spark can't start recording when the away and follow is active reffering to this post:

The distance for the gesture must be <2m.
I will try this later...

I've tried at 2m. It recorded my waist. Not sure why I can shoot a selfie at max active track distance, but not initiate video recording :\

Updated manual states you must be in the 2m range for it to work.

yes, and then wave it away and the video will keep recording when it flies back to start tracking as is mentioned in this thread and a few others as well!

Looks like you can do the away and follow gesture after you start recording via the gesture:

Okay... I tried it.
This is how it works for me, no device connected:
Hand launch
Record video gesture
Away and follow gesture
Y gesture (to start tracking, wasn’t active like before after the wave gesture)
....recording while tracking....
Beckon gesture
Stop recording gesture
Hand land

A lot of gestures but it works. This is awesome! No need for a connected device. Thank you dji.

An option in the go app for „Start recording with hand launch and stop recording with hand land“ would also be very nice.

I tried it yesterday but didn't get it to work (iPhone 5SE).
However, the selfies worked every time with pleasing results.
I'll try again this evening if the weather allows.

Okay... I tried it.
This is how it works for me, no device connected:
Hand launch

Yup, same with me, tried this on Saturday and palm launched, then the wave away, then the video gesture and it would not record video.  Tried it with my daughter, as I watched on the phone app to see if it was working, nada.

Tried a third time, palm launched, video gesture mode, then wave away, it worked!  Although I thought I read something about it working within 23 meters or something, it appears to me that you need to do the video gesture mode when it's right next to you.  

That is odd, given that you can take a selfie photo AFTER wave away, which makes more sense when you want that perspective on your shot.  

I'm guessing DJI will update this and allow you to take video after the fly away, but the online updated manual says, "Perform the Vdieo Recording gesture within 6ft (2m) of aircraft...perform the record gesture again to stop."  Which I assume you have to do after you beckon it to return to you, so you are again within 6ft?

Anyway, making progress...

Was working fine until the latest firmware update.
Now, I'm unable to perform even the basic palm control of fly-away wave gesture. It works about one in 20 times.

I noticed something this week-end tough. Using the DJI Go 4 app, when I activated the "Gestures" mode, the video feed had a lot of horizontal "tearing". I this was actually what the Spark processor had to look at, no wonder its having a hard time locating people in the picture.

Maybe someone from DJI should look into this possible clue.

Every Gesture is working somehow to fine since the latest firmware update.
Palm launch (100% of the attempts), taking selfies (around 30% - means I have to try it 2 to 3 times until it works), video gesture (90%) -> but (RTFM) only in near distance (the manual says:  "Perform the video gesture within 6ft / 2m of the Aircraft"), fly away (100%) and backon (90%)

I hope that DJI will increase the rate of recognition of the selfie gesture. The rest ist working acceptable good.

Hasn't worked consistently with me.  I have gotten it to work, but I would say only a few times out of many tries.
