Huh, I don't think it has ever prompted me to do so other than the first time I turned it on - will it prompt me again for some specific reason? I heard other people say they were doing it every time, so that was why I did it.
I have never calibtsted and app has never asked for it.
Didn't prevent my flyaway experience, though. Still got compass-error and the wind took spark in atti-mode,
Link to my thread here since nobody botherd to respond. https://forum.dji.com/thread-107697-1-1.html
As a general rule of thumb, if the pointy end of the little aircraft symbol in the lower of the screen is pointing in the same direction as the drone, the compass is calibrated okay. Otherwise, the app should prompt you to calibrate.

I’ve only had to do it a couple times and that’s when I was in another area. Other than that, only when the app asks me to.
A couple if TIMES ? i think that's too much
Don't get miss-leaded if yo have before takeoff a compass error if you read you will see that the AC want's you to move in a different start location , NOT TO CALIBRATE.
I would recommend calibrating the compass by the following occasions for your reference:
When compass data is abnormal, and the Aircraft Status Indicator is blinking red and yellow.
When flying at a new location or a location different from your last flight.
When severe drifting occurs in flight.
These are not all the occasions that you need to calibrate it, calibrate it when it needs to.
When I first got the spark I did not calibrate the compass, after the recent firmware update I got a prompt, so I did it then, and have had trouble-free flying since then. Definitely agree, only do it when the app requests.
