How far have you taken out drone before you lose signal from the controller? I noticed when I go beyond about 1400ft, I start to lose signal and the aircraft disconnect from the controller.

OH okay, I thought that was the only one, because I was trying to see how far I can push it.

Go to a good interference-free area and you'll see much greater range.
You may also get an improvement by trying 5.8GHz or 2.4GHz - whichever you aren't using already.

I was using 5.8Ghz and 2.4GHz and I was getting the same range, I was in my neighborhood, maybe I get a little more range.

My longest distance flight with my P4P+ flight has been about 11,000 feet, just under 2 miles. The only way I could do that was in manual 2.4GHz. In auto 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz I rarely get up to 4,000-5,000 feet range.

I get about a half mile in my neighborhood with lots of trees and running 200-300 FT altitude. Got about a mile and a half out in way point mode so I could make sure it came back since it was out of range.

As Labroides mentioned, change to another place without interference might be helpful.

At the western most point of Lake Erie, when I'm flying over the lake or rivers, I get about 1600m at 100m high before video starts freezing, and about 1800m is when I get the "lost signal" message.  Good thing the P4P is programmed to return when lost signal.  When it gets back to about 1700m I am able to take control again.  MY QUESTION is, do those "range increaser" devices that they sell for the remote really work?  Has anyone tried them?

That is surprising. I keep reading about all these distance records in the US and your distance is way below.
You guys are in the FCC region. Transmision range per manual should be 4.3 miles (7km).
I'm in CE region with muss less transmitter power. The P4P specs say: 1.2 miles (2km)
I have made it as far as 1.55 miles (2.5km) in open field, unobstructed view, some civilization here and there.
