When I fly my phantom 2 with the gimbal/gopro attached,  the drone wants to autoland randomly.    If I remove the gimbal and gopro then the drone flies until the battery is almost dead before trying to autoland.

Any thoughts?

Hi Michael,
Which mode does the phantom use,  phantom or Naza?
Is the drone flying with GPS ?
Except gimbal&gopro ,do you have any other equipment attached?
Any video about this issue will be highly appreciated.

I am having a similar issue. When the WiFi of the GoPro is on, the signal between the Phantom 2 and its controller is lost at a relatively short distance, and the Phantom auto lands. However, when the WiFi of  the GoPro is off, I can guide the Phantom much further and fly around anywhere without autoland. There appears to be some interference between the WiFi from the GoPro with the Phantom 2. Please investigate this issue and advise how to proceed. Feel free to request any additional information you need from me.

The P2 uses 2.4Ghz for RC.
The GoPro wifi is also 2.4Ghz.
DJI has always recommended that you not use the GoPro wifi when flying with 2.4Ghz RC...

When it autoland, what's its led indicator status?
Please connect the phantom to the assisstant software, do you get any error?
We can clean the contacts on the battery&battery cabin to see whether it helps.
It's recommended to offer us a video to analyze.

Doesn't T J Gilbert's reply above tell you why this is happening or is there some other factor that needs to be considered?

But this does beg the question,   could other wifi sources in my neighborhood interfere with the drone?

OK DJI here is a link to  a .dat file produced by the IOSD Mark II containing all the info on a flight I did today :

https://drive.google.com/file/d/ ... VE/view?usp=sharing

At roughly 80 seconds into the flight the phantom decides to autoland,    I apply full throttle but this has no effect on the rpm of the motors and consequently the phantom hits the ground at about 82 seconds.

Any ideas why the motors would not respond to the throttle as it was decending?

The motors will not respond because it is in fail safe. Flipping the S1 switch down and back up should let you regain control...I think.

Hi Michael,

We download the video but it cannot play.

Hi Autumn,

It is not a video,   it is the log file produced by your DJI iosd mark II .    you will need to use your "DJI Data Viewer" to view the contents.

I don't have anything to measure the weight with but you should be able to calculate the weight based on the attached equipment - gimbal, gopro 3, prop guards + iosd mark ii .    The problem was happening even before I added the iosd mark ii.

yes,   I have an IOSD but no FPV.    The IOSD was for trouble shooting issues like the current one because it can create log files.

After installing 4 of the new 2312 motors , new ESC and new props, no longer have the autoland problem.     After looking at the data from the iosd mark II log files I could see that the previous motors were at their limit in terms of performance / weight capacity.    Upgrading to the new motors seems to have provided enough additional thrust so that the limits were not breached.
Other factor hurting performance is that I am at 5700' elevation.    Elevation coupled with the load (h3-3d gimbal/gopro3/prop guards) put the old motors to the max.

So, any idea what was actually triggering the fail safe mode? Were the motors/ESCs overheating and triggering it or something?

My guess is that there is check to see if any motor has been at max output for longer than 1 second while just trying to hover.     Could be wrong but from the data I could see from the iosd mark II  it looks highly suspicious.    Perhaps DJI will post the source code for the flight controller then I could tell you for sure :-)
