I am about to purchase an IPad 2 mini for use with my Inspire (when it finally arrives!) I intend to use this primarily with the Inspire, does the IPads memory have any relevance on which one I buy 16 / 32 GB ? Also I am slightly confused as to whether to buy a Wifi only model or one with Cellular with respect to GPS.
Any advice greatley appreaciated.

Better be safe then sorry and get the GPS capable version to be future proof for different features that may require it, as far as  memory of course to more the merrier but I think 16GB will suffice

The only iPads that have GPS are the ones that are cellular-service capable. Are you sure you'd need this when the Phantoms have their own GPS?

Not true, my iPad mini 3 is WiFi only and has GPS..

That's weird. According to the tech specs page on Apple's site, only the cellular model of the mini has GPS:
http://www.apple.com/ipad-mini-3/specs/

Same for the iPad Air:

I think you are confusing GPS chip with location, it uses wifi access point to triangulate location but I pretty sure the wifi only version does not have GPS.

Correct. It's using your WiFi location. We have six iPads and the only one that we can actually use in the car for road maps navigation is our original iPad 1 with cellular because it has GPS as part of the cellular chip.

Which brings us back to an earlier question... does your tablet REALLY need GPS since the Phantom has its own?

Get the SIM/Cellular capable Ipad Air 2 or Mini 3 (or Iphone 6,6+).  Don't even think twice unless you already have a different tablet and are trying to make that one work.  Always get the newest most compatible technology.

Again, why do you need a cellular capable/gps-capable iDevice? I don't see anything in the app description or on the DJI site that requires it?

Or just do as I do, share cellular from iPhone -> iPad mini 2. Works fine on P2, should work on P3 too.

Dji states: iPad mini 2, iPad mini 2 +cellular both will work. So it sounds like the wifi model will be fine..
