Does anyone know if this is just a packing piece or is part of the gimbal? The vidios I have been going thru, including the unboxing that are out does not show this piece.

It is part of the packing and should be removed before flight.

Thanks Ed! Glad you caught this Posts. I was thinking of leaving it on!

Mine had a sticker saying remove before powering on...

[Was your Gimbal clamp/lock in place when you unpacked the bird?

Mine was... sort of. it had slipped a bit and doesn't locked in very well...

I could not help but remember to remove it on mine The made it VERY clear!

...just to be sure!
I'm a bit confuse so to be clear "Remove before flight" means "It's something from the original package and has to be  removed and thrown away" or "use that thing every time when your are not flying or when transporting your P3"

Mine also did not have the sticker. Good question about saving this foam "packing" for use when transporting. I think I'll keep it and attach it to the plastic one used to hold the gimbal with some mono line. The plastic one on mine fell off during shipping, but everything AOK so far. Doing the firmware update now. Fingers crossed.

I just got a production unit and it also did not have the sticker.  I have forwarded to DJI.

Mine had it as well.  Without the red label.  And I missed it when I did the first power up so naturally the gimbal squawked like a trapped bird.  And yes, the gimbal clamp was loose when I unboxed it and it appears to have rubbed on the ribbon cable.  I won't know if it's affected the camera yet because the Android tablet I'm using is glitching out on me.

I just received my P3P today at the office and we took it outside for it's maiden voyage.  I missed this little piece and left it in tact.  When I fired up the P3P the app told me the gimbal was overloaded.  I flew around with it on for about 5 minutes and then landed it and powered down.  I hope I didn't damage anything.

No sticker on mine either.  Luckily I noticed it before I tried to fly.

Why would you fly for 5 minutes if the app was telling you there was a problem?

It will be fine.  It's electromagnetic, not hard geared.

I say keep the foam, I did. Use it for transport and use a rubber-band (large enough to not be too tight) to keep the gimbal lock in place.

Still can't believe DJI doesn't give a better gimbal lock or lens cap.

I actually removed and discarded this foam piece.   I also decided to get a 3D printed gimbal lock/lens protector combo to replace the DJI gimbal lock.  It is much easier to install and also serves the purpose of protecting your lens.  You can pick these up at your friendly auction site.
