Hi all,
The manual of the Phantom 3 states that the transmitter power in 20 dbp in FCC (USA) region and only 16 dbm in CE (Europe) region?

My question is how does the device know which mode to be in? Is this selected in software settings? Or is this hard coded depending on which market you purchase the device? What if purchasing the device in one region and flying in another, can it be changed?

Maybe the helpful DJI guy can support on this one.

Thanks!

Ok great, thanks for the response guys. I knew I could get a reliable answer in the forum.

Do you know if the Inspire 1 has a better range in Europe as it doesn't seem to vary the output power based on location? It uses 5.8 GHz and 2.4?

Do you  ...

The Inspire should have better range in Europe because it was released before 2015, this has something to do with new regulations. On other hand it turned out that the Phantom3 in CE is cabable of 6000m long range with stock remote, this should be enough for you :p

Yes 6000m is probably enough! Where have you seen that for CE zones? I have been reading around 500-700m in CE?

500-700m? Who said that? In FCC mode the Phantom3 was marketed with 2000m range, everybody expected the range in CE mode with 1000-1200m. Indeed, 6000m is crazy and the guy said he could make it to 7000m or more. I will never test that but its definately good to know and in case of a fly away you can at least track the P3 for longer which is a relief to know.

Changing Regional Settings (Europve vs USA) in the Tables-Setting gives access to custom-channel settings but doesn't switch from CE to FCC or vice versa?

Tahoe_ED, i just asked DJI support about it and they told me completely different thing:

My questions:
1. Is there possibility to switch from CE to FCC mode or should i sell my current EU model and buy FCC version (in US?)
2. How should i determine when i am buying FCC version. I do not want to buy EU version again.
3. What should I do when i buy and FCC version and i got a contract in Europe, how to switch from FCC to CE to not break a EU law?

And DJI answers:
1. Yes, only way is purchase another drone.
2. We suggest you can purchase from a USA dealer or DJI store and remark you need a FCC version.
It will tell the version on the packing box.
3. No access to switch the version. In theory, yes, it will breaks the local law.

So EU clients, are clients of the second category. I will move to US in a few weeks and i would lke to fully use an advantages of 20dBi. And i can have a contract in Europe, and then i cant switch it to 16dBi back.
Only one solution is to have two drones or deal with the half range of cropped product in EU version.

Tahoe_ED, to be clear, i do not want to have a cropped version, i will live in US with FCC rules. I am going to sell this EU versions, but i need confirmation of DJI statement.
Who have right, You or DJI support?
And another DJi support words about a range:
"Actually if you select an open area, the CE version also have a nice range.(Usually 1-2km)"
You have advertising on Your website it is about 3,5 km in CE and 5 km in US.
Stronger signal is not a more range, but it is more safety. Thats why i want to have 20 dBi in US.The above shows we should definately avoid a P3 from EU resellers.

Thats not a point. It is not about range in open space, 20dbi  is better signal penetration. In the case of loosing a signal by a trees, buildings or some other interferences it is always better to have 60% more stronger signal...I will live in country with FCC regulation, so i would like to use my P3 at full power.

DJI denying it works. They wrote it is both in radio and in a bird.

Another news from the battlefield. I just got an e-mail from DJI, from the same person who wrote about set in factory.

"I just confirmed that the version will be changed automatically per the GPS position.
Sorry for making you misunderstood."

Seems fine for me. I can use with full power FCC in USA and according to law in UE.
It seems Tahoe ED was right.

I hate to bring up an old subject but maybe this will settle the question for good.  I live in USA and below is a picture of the sticker on my P3S box I just got a couple of weeks ago.  Notice all the references to FCC.  Could someone in EU where CE rules apply post a similar picture of a P3S purchased in EU.  A comparison of the two stickers might tell us what we are questioning about our drones.

So?

Someone said me, to commute from CE to FCC:

- Set USA on tablet/IPAD
- Set off GPS on tablet/ipad
- Set Off Map Cache on DJI GO

When I did so Custom Channel on DJI GO Set was unblocked (blocked in CE mode)

I am now in FCC mode?

I does not work! Setting the tablet to USA makes the channel hack work and gives you 32 channels (this may change if you update future firmware) BUT does not give you FCC power.

I can measure mw output with an modified RC and RC Ommersion device and EC has 20mw output but FCC has 40mw. Measured on a GL658B.

There IS a way to fly with FCC power everywhere but the report how to do is NOT free.

That's strange. 20 dMb requires 200 mw and 26 = 400 mw. 20 and 40 mw is much less than Bluetooth. So you're off by x10.

Depends on where you fly (urban area or an area without signal pollution)
But yes
You should get around 4 km
My best on my P3 Professional is 5 km
Both P3 Advanced and the Professional use Lightbridge which allows you to fly that far
