How far out distance away...I'm assuming it was 18712' total flight distance (9350'ish out/back), which would be just shy on two miles out.

couple of things.  I don't see where this is linear travel.  Some mild turns on there.   Did you go out 18712 and 18712 back?  Total trip 37424?    My best is 16,624 with two bars left in transmisstion.  I stopped there.  Return I had 2:15 still on battery.  Don't know percentage but that was time.   If you did, congrats.   These birds are capable if you keep them high enough and no obstructions.

There were some turns.  Its not a perfectly straight line at all.  I actually hit 20,000 going straight line after later that day.  Don't have  video of it though.  I'll do it again later.

've been out 12k feet in the country and city. I believe this is possible. With mild upgrades, I believe that even 18k could be pushed even farther with perfect HD FPV feed. This is an awesome product!

You must have Bionic Eyes! How could you possibly keep it within the line of site at that distance??? Obviously you wouldn't want to break any laws!

Not an issue in the US...but not recommended either...FAA says you can't fly within 5 Mile radius above 200'...there are other things...but it is mainly stay away from airports.

DO fly your aircraft within line of sight.

That's direct from the FAA. Their infographic says the same.
Their interpretation of rules says the same.

The proposed new rules specify line of sight:
http://www.faa.gov/news/press_re ... ry.cfm?newsId=18295
"The proposed rule would require an operator to maintain visual line of sight of a small UAS"

From the DJI manual for P3
"Fly the aircraft only within your line of sight."

I'm not telling you what to do - but please don't tell folks "not an issue". If you have assets you should certainly obtain an umbrella policy for a million or two because you are liable for anything and everything that machine does - and even more when it is out of your site (the AMA will insure you only if you use their guidelines).

Very cool...I am in a suburb area and can't get past 1900ft without getting a weak RC signal and that was at 275' altitude.

Think I am going to go out in the desert this weekend and fly some distances that are unobstructed

What Alt were you at?

Poor poor Amazon.  Guess they'll never make those drone deliveries...

Anyways.   If you guys want to push out the drone, just make sure you have a good place to land in case battery gets scarce.  I picked an area where I could land in a field and go get my drone if I had to.
