One would assume the E310 is better because first we had the E300 and then we had the E310!  But looking at the specs the lift rating on the E305 is slighly higher and the KV on the E305 is lower.  
I don't see  active breaking listed as a feature on the E305... But for only $10 diffrence on one vs the other... it is very confusing to have two products that look almost the same.

Anyone have a good understanding of the use case for the E305 vs the E310 and visa versa?

Ist not higher! DJI give for the E305 Max. Thrust as 850 g/rotor (14.8 V, Sea Level) and

for the E310 Kit - Max. Thrust as 800 g/rotor (12.0 V, Sea Level)

Shure the E310 hast at 14,8 Volt more Thrust as the E305.....

It is still not clear why they have an E310 and E305 when the price point for 4 motor set is $10 difference.

also notice they do the motors in
2312E 800kv
2312E 960Kv,

i wonder if the 960kv will replace the 2312 in the E310 kit ? the E305 kit just shows the 800w motor but when you look at the parts they show both available

E305 is lighter and more efficient than E310. The F450 and F550 now is equiped with E305 KV 960.

And the E305 with 800kv is more for 4s packs

The E305 is supposed to be7% more efficient than the 310, and weighs less. This would lengthen flight time

Have the E305 got an active braking, like the E310?
Does it make sense to get the E305 with 800kv, using a 3s LiPo? Because I can't find any pack with 4 E305 960Kv Motors, ESCs,Props,.... and I already have the 3s LiPo I was using before

I have E300 and E305, can I mix then to built a f550 hex? Recently have crash the quad f450 with E300. All the motor and ESC are fine except naza and frame. I was thinking of getting the bottom and top frame to built a F550.

No you cannot mix these motors. They perform differently and your 550 could become unstable.

It will work but it would be best if you use the ESC that comes with the 310 on the 310 and use the ESC that comes with the 305 on the 305.

Motors 2312E 800 kV, will be more traction for my copter than 2312E 960Kv?

Hi All  I bought the F450 ARF kit with the 2312E 960kv motors.  Have been flying 4s no problems with no gimbal /go pro but flight times are short.  I would like to increase 4s battery size and add gimbal / gopro so that AUW  goes to 1.65kg.

Anyone see any issues with this?

The alternative is to drop 120g and go 3s for an AUW of 1.53kg.  If primary goal is to increase flight time... which should I go for here, I know I'm getting on the heavier side?

I don't believe that is true...the flight controller will compensate just fine as it doesn't know if the difference in performance/lift coming from a given motor is from a wind gust, the center-of-gravity being off center, different prop, etc.
