Where are the Screen Recordings stored on the SD Card of the RC2?

I flew yesterday and activiated the Screen Recording on my DJI RC2.  Before the flight I inserted a SD card into the DJI RC2 and through the DJI Fly app used Profile->Settings->Storage to point to the SD card for the screen recording.  Before takeoff, I started "Screen Recording" from the pull down menu on the RC2.  After the flight, I removed the SD card from the DJI RC2 and took it to my Mac to load the screen recording to my Mac's HD storage.

The SD card showed up on my Mac with the name "Android".  I searched though the SD card and could not find any files that had my "Screen Recording" in them.  I specifically remember using the "STOP" recording button on the RC2 at the end of my flight and heard the "chime" indicating the recording had stopped.

So, on the RC2 controller I can select Album from the Connection screen, then select "Aircraft Album" and "ALL" and see the Cache version of all the videos I took.  But I can NOT see where my "Screen Recording" anywhere.  When I select "Saved", I can not see any photos or videos under, "ALL", "Photos", "Videos" or "Favorites".

So, my question is, "Where is my Screen Recording saved in this Android hierarchical system?"  Can anyone shred some light on this for me?  Thanks for your help!

I don't have the RC2 but if memory serves me right on the RC screen recordings are in the Android/Movies folder.

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out and we're sorry for the trouble. Mainly the DJI RC has the storage path for the screen recording in DJI RC/SanDisk SD Card/Movies and for screenshots DJI RC/SanDisk SD Card/Pictures/Screenshots, please try this path and see if the DJI RC 2 uses the same storage path. We will coordinate this with our relevant for further clarification. Thank you for your understanding.

The directories, Movies and Screenshots/Pictures seem like a logical location, but there is nothing in either one of these directories on my microSD card.  I think I'm going to try a new microSD card, as this one came from my Mini 3 Pro and was used before.  Will report back, if I still have the problem.  Thanks for your replies DJI Paladin and Downtown RDB!

Hi Paladin
I too could not locate the screen recordings; I have found them in the RC2 Unit's own internal memory, not the SD card.  This is different from the RC (1) method and I would want to change the screen recordings to use the micro SD card, which I can't immediately see how to.  Can you advise?

Cheers

Well, I initially had a bad microSD card which I resolved by replacing with a new card.  BUT, like Ian-in-London, after replacing the card, I could only find my screen recordings in the internal memory of the RC2, even though I specified I wanted them on the SD card via Profile->Settings->Storage from the RC2's main screen.

I believe this a 'bug' in either the software or firmware of the RC2 controller.  The reason I state this, is that it is definitely NOT as user friendly finding the screen recordings on the RC2, as the original RC with the Mini 3 Pro.  And they appear to not be saved following the "User's" input, as stated above.

DJI Paladin - Can you please forward these findings to your team for some sort of resolution?

This is correct.  Even after I directed the controller to use the external drive it is still putting the screen recording on the internal memory.

Hi! I also have the RC2 with the save path set to SD card. I did a flight and found the video recording not on the SD card, but on the internal storage.

The path was: This PC\DJI RC 2\Internal shared storage\Movies

And by the way, the resolution of the recording was 1280x720 with 60 FPS, so it seems that the RC2 isn't recording in 1920x1080, which it's supposed to use for display.

The same thing is happening to me.
When I do a screen recording I get the usual small movable icon with the recording time. When I hit stop at the end of the recording, I don-t get the usual sound.
I cannot find the file in the memory disk or on the memory of the controller

Hi DJI Paladin,
I am a bit surprised by the reply.
This is not the case with the RC controller of the Mini 3 Pro, as the screen recordings are stored on the SD card.
And anyway, why is there an SD card slot in the RC 2 if it cannot store the screenshots?
I believe it is a small bug, which can happen with the first release of the firmware. Nothing to worry about, but it would be great if this issue was solved by a firmware update

Like the others have already mentioned the screen recordings on the RC2 are saved to the internal memory instead of the external SD card, regardless if the SD Card is selected as Current Storage Location in Settings. In order to access the screen recordings on Mac, I needed to download an app called Android File Transfer.

Hopefully this is sorted out as it's such a pain to have to transfer or delete screen recordings off of the RC2 if the internal storage is full.

Try connecting the RC2 to your computer with the USB-C cable included with the Air 3. You should be able to access both the internal memory and SD card of the RC2.

in the fly app, go into settings and there is an option to tell it to use either internal storage or SD card. I had the same issue when I first got my A3 and finally stumbled across that setting. You can also move contents from the internal storage to the SD card as well. Do that through the drag down twice menu. Have to make sure you have internal storage selected to show the files you want to move then select them and choose move and then change it to SD card and put it/them into the folder on the SD card you want to move them too.

Hi!

I've also selected SD Card under the Settings menu in the Fly App of the RC2 and the screen recordings continue to be saved onto the RC2's internal memory.

Having to transfer files from the internal memory to the external SD card seems unnecessary if the software worked as intended.

I agree. But once I selected it to use the SD card, for me anyway, it actually saves it to the SD card. So I'm not sure why yours isn't. It made me kinda feel as though the android operating system and the fly app was fighting for control of storage spaces and which it wanted to use at first. I feel that at least for the RC's with built in screens, they should develop their own OS based off the fly app so there is only one OS to tell it what you want to do with what. I have yet to get a bluetooth file transfer to work from the RC2 to my iphone.

I could try testing it with a different SD card. I'm currently using SAMSUNG EVO Plus 512gb cards on both the Air 3 and RC2, which I purchased because they were recommended by DJI.

I'd also like to point out that after the firmware latest firmware update, I noticed the RC2 flashed a message saying that an SD card was detected and I could select it in the Profile Settings. But when screen recording the files are still saved to the internal memory.

I too am having this issue, and it's driving me nuts.  I need to recover some screen recordings that are saved on the internal storage, but when I try to connect the RC2 to my Mac, the Mac apparently isn't recognizing the controller.  I've tried different cables, but none work.  None of this would be an issue if the screen recordings would simply record to the SD card as directed.  Extremely frustrated because without being able to download the screen recording I'm unable to obtain the DJI Care for my Air 3.  I've been working on this for almost a month now, and Support has been ineffective to say the least.

The August 28 update did not correct the problem.

When I first got the RC2 I attempted to connect it to my Mac and it was not recognized. I do however have Windows 10 on Parallels and it was recognized there. Despite  that workaround, I still felt it was an extra step just to read the RC2 so I came across someone using Android File Transfer and it worked for me. I should mention that my Mac is an Intel based MacBook Pro, so maybe it doesn't work with Apple Silicon?

The RC2 is the first Android device I've owned. I was very disappointed when I found out that I couldn't invert the flight controls to pull to ascend and push to descend. Apparently it's a bug specific to the Android version of the DJI Fly app, and iOS users can invert their controls without issue.  I now have to relearn years of muscle memory just to fly the Air 3. If I had known the RC2 ran Android and had issues I probably would've just went with the RC-N2 and use an old iPhone I got lying around.

The android file transfer app is what I use with my M1 macbook air. For me that works pretty good as I don't have to take the SD card out of the controller. But I do have to start the app instead of MacOS just mounting it as drives which would be better IMO.

I think the whole things needs to be streamlined into a better process.

(This method works for me on RC-2) only if you have a SD card inserted in your controller.

So turn on your RC-2. Swipe down and tap on EXPLORE on the left side from the SD card notification.
THEN tap the three stripes icon on the top left (near disk) THEN tap Videos and THEN Movies. In that folder you can find all your screen recordings

Thank me later

If you look carefully at the first screenshot I posted, the prompt I received says SD CARD INSERTED which means I do have my SD Card inserted but I still don't see the EXPLORE option.

Perhaps the RC2 only recognizes certain SD Cards. I am using a Samsung EVO Plus 512GB on both the Air 3 and RC2 as recommended by DJI. Would you mind telling me what brand and size SD Card you're using?

Strange, once you plug the SD card in the RC-2, you must see the card notification automatically on the left. (Maybe hard reset your RC-2) ?!

I have a another solution for you.
Just long press the Record Screen icon:

And you will see all your ScreenRecordings Internal + External

(FYI: I'm using Samsung 256GB Micro SD Evo Plus UHS-I U3 V30 A2 130MB/s )

Looks like we're using the same brand and model SD Cards, just mine is 512GB which shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the tip for long press screen record. It shows me all the test screen recordings I have created but all of them are on the RC2 internal memory.

Going to try a factory reset on the RC2 now and report back.

Yeah, its standard that all screen records will automatically saved in the INTERNAL storage. its NOT possible too change it that it will save automatically to the SD card.

You need to COPY the screen recording manually to the SD card. by long pressing a screen record and then copy to -> SD card.

You can try reset it by your self with the: DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series)
https://www.dji.com/nl/air-3/downloads

Have a blessed day!

I'm not sure if you can do a HARD reset for the RC-2.

I just did the hard reset and now the card is recognized properly. Now I need to do tests to see if the RC2 still records to the internal memory of the RC2.
