Hi,

Has anyone recently bought a P3 pro or advanced and noticed if they have new motors? Apparently 2312E motors are now being supplied which are more effiecient and look different than the older ones in that they are star shaped when looking down at them. See the attached photo for an example.

They come with a littler plastic clamp not the wrench anymore.

I think the latest motor versions don't come with a wrench. They come with a little "clamp" instead. You can hold the motor shaft and rotate the propeller on/off.

Does (can) this use the same ESC's that we have on previous P3's? Is it worth changing out the motors if yours are operating okay? Buy 4 for spares? 18 USD x 4 won't break the bank, but it is very important not to booger-up or confuse the onboard programming. It is apparently a component of a new "tuned propultion system" including motors, ESC's, and propellers. What is the word to the wise on this motor by itself as an upgrade?

Here is a quote from the DJI site (http://www.dji.com/product/e305):

Built with improved manufacturing techniques, the brand new 2312E motor represents a significant
upgrade over the previous 2312 model. The optimized electro-magnetic system boosts efficiency
by nearly 7% and lowers cogging torque, which provides noticeably smoother performance at low RPMs.
A newly designed motor base not only provides better heat dissipation, but also a more advanced, hi-tech look.

**EDIT**
Well, this is confusing...the DJI Store has the 2312E motor available in BOTH 800KV and 960KV versions; KV indicating unloaded RPM's per volt. What do we have on the P3 now?

See http://store.dji.com//tuned-propulsion-system/e305.

As far as upgrading goes the motors are simply plug and play (sadly) they are soldered to the main board. I don't think they are upgradeable unless you're ok with totally voiding the warranty and installing them yourself.

oh dang.  thats too bad! so the motors plug into the ESC, and the ESC is soldered to the board?

I don't remember exactly, I had to take off the top to replace the gimbal cable that got damaged after a crash, so this is just from memory but I think they are soldered directly to the main board and the ESC is part of it.

Recent post of the top opened....     http://forum.dji.com/thread-29513-1-1.html    it appers that the motors are directly soldered to the main board and no options of upgrading without voiding warranty and such..

well the warranty isnt worth a hill of beans anyway. Anything that crashes the craft isnt covered or if it is covered you need to wait 3 or 4 months to fly again. Even the mainboard is only 399 online.

I believe the birds currently come with 960KV  model 2312 (no letter)

I have a P3A and it was the original one that comes with the 2312 Motors.

I've tried to replace my P3 motor with 2312e 800Kv and 2312E 960Kv motors .

With 2312E 800KV motors and firmware 1.32, my P3 does not fly as stable as the original 2312 960Kv motor, it feels like it's almost trying to  tip over and feels like the air braking is not working either, the fly performance is pretty bad. I think the firmware is not optimized for this motor.

I then buy another sets of 2312E 960Kv motor and was of hoping it will work similar to the original motors. This time the flight performance is better but still not quite as good as the original one and don't think the air brake work either.

My guess is the ESC in P3 is similar to the 420S as their startup beep sounds are the same  . Also  DJI stated the 420S ESC are not compatible on their web site and i think that is part of the reason why they don't work yet .

Few days ago I have updated the firmware to 1.4 and was hopping this version would make it compatible with the 2312E 960Kv motors. Unfortunate, air breaking and the flight performance are still not good..

As you guys have pointed out the new P3 come with the new 2312E motors now. I am wondering whether the ESC on the new models are  different from the original one as  well??

Also do you know which version of the 2312E motors (960kv or 800Kv ) are the new one comes with??

I have updated my "Old" P3A with the latest firmware 1.4 and replacing the 2312E motors on  them will lead to pretty bad flight characteristic...

Will future firmware on the "Old" P3A address this or 2312E motors are simply not support on ??

Ideas anyone??

Joe,
That means your Phantom was produced a bit earlier. nothing to worry about when the difference between their efficiency is only about 7%

Thanks Tim, but 7% to me is huge and I'm disappointed I bought a new DJI3P with the old motors while others were shipped before mine with the updated motors.  Now what would your boss say if you said not to worry about 7% of DJI's 2015 gross sales.  Now what's 7% of a billion dollars?

I believe DJI should have depleted all its older models before shipping out the new ones.  It is what it is but should have been corrected.

Got a question... Is there a possibility to find out if a package in a store got the new or the old Motors ? i.e. different Product-Code ?

sorry man but 7% is nothing, those are the usual marketing numbers so expect the real numbers in the 4% range : p The much more important thing is are those motors better build in case of balance, cooling etc.. this is the key here

I was reading up about the new motors in another forum earlier. I just purchased my P3 pro on Oct. 10 and have the old motors. I couldn't find anything as far as the coding on the box but after looking I found that you can see the difference of old vs. new motors on the picture on the box.
