Wow, stunning photography.  Many thanks to you (and others!) for the tips.
I've incorporated them into my "newbie" checklist.
Looking forward to the "golden hour" over the salt marsh this evening at high tide.  Tomorrow morning as well.

RE: Make best of your drone photos

Great story. I'm not getting the crispness out of any of my photos that you're getting. In some of the photos, parts will be sharp, but other parts aren't, and it seems random on which parts of the photo are sharp and which aren't. I'm shooting RAW with good shutter speeds, etc... Is there something I need to calibrate on the Phantom to make the shots sharp like yours? Even your Rome Before shot looks much sharper than anything that I'm getting. Any suggestions?

First of all, great guide!

I have also wondered why 4:3 is the standard format as opposed to 3:2 which all DSLRs use. About 16:9 or 4:3: The sensor itself is 4:3 which means 16:9 is a cropped version of that. Something you can do yourself in post-processing instead if you want.

Hey Bryan,

Thanks for asking. It's actually a topic of its own. I honestly believe that all my shots from camera are too much blurry. If yours are even blurrier then mine, do check your camera. I use sharpening on post processing quite a lot and I mask out the skies so it;s still kinda natural. I will do the tutorial on part #7 the post-processing , my-own-technique later on if anyone interested and post it here.

I'd be interested in reading that. I teach Lightroom and photography, so I sort of think it's the camera. It seems after looking over shots I got today there are three or four "bad" spots randomly around the image. Almost like Vaseline smeared on the lens. The lens looks clean though. Even when I got aggressive with sharpening they don't clean up much.
Definately, want to see you write other tutorials. Love the look of this one on Medium.

Hey Bryan,

Thanks for reply. You should definitely check the camera if it's like you describe. BTW check it in P mode , because for some bizarre reason only P mode had a focus when you tap on screen. If its still blurry then it must be the camera. Also you talked about smear on the lens I do had it one time also but I believe its because of the accidental touch to the filter cap before the take off, never appeared again. but I almost always have a very distinctive bright white dots especially on the top 2/3 of the image, like a hundred of them or so, always at random and I had to clean up it from almost all pictures. Did you get that as well?

If you teaching Lightroom and Photography I believe my method of post-processign will not be new to you

Vadim.

I don't seem to get any white dots that need to be cleaned up. Trying to get the filter cap off is pretty difficult, but I'm going to check the lens itself after I can get the filter cap off.

Edit: I just flew it without the UV filter on the lens. The quality was much better than what I was seeing from the camera with the UV filter. Much sharper and the blurry areas disappears. The corners are soft, but I expected that. The weird thing is that the center seems softer than the middle of the frame. That's unexpected and can't say I've ever seen that in a lens. I need to find somewhere with a uniform ground pattern (like a big area with pavers) to figure this out.

Hmm, that's interesting. I never fly without any of UV or ND filters caps A bit afraid of camera damage since I land it rough sometimes.
Had to try for once.

Thank you for the information.

Hi Madebyvadim,   Having an issue that appears to be a focus problem.  I realize it's fixed focus, but it seems the last few weeks everything seems to be out of focus.  I'm trying to determine if that's the case, or if it's a result of camera shake/wind.  Generally when I see camera shake it's more of a velocity type blur rather than an "out of focus" type.

What are your thoughts on this?

I agree, wind create more like a directional blur, rather then out of focus effect.

Is it like small 100% scale visible bluer or , oh my I can see it in thumbnails kinda blur?
Care so post a screenshot?
