It looks like DJI have started stocking and selling probably the best and most practical microphone for the osmo, the Rode VideoMicro. This is the mic I have and its very good. You still need to try and keep it away fro the Osmo's camera though as it might well pick up *some noise from the fan.

DJI OSMO Microphone attachment using a Fotodiox Adapter. Here's my way of attaching the Rode VideoMicro to the Osmo using a Fotodiox smart phone adapter. Works nicely with a ball & socket head.

I just bought my Rode videomicro for this camera when I get it.  Haven't seen what DJI is doing for CES but I am excited to attach it to the osmo.  Rode is such a great company and I think in some ways they are ahead of there time.  With quality and price you really can't beat.

So if I buy this mic for my Osmo, I also need the "DJI Straight Extension Arm"for $29 from B&H to attach it in the way shown in the DJI images right? Anything further needed?

You need the DJI straight arm extension AND the DJI universal mount unless you use the setup that alanamor82 is showing above...then you just attach to the phone mount.

you will but I say wait till you get the camera because tech changes.  Not so much with a good mic tho. the Rode video micro is an all around good mic so you wont go wrong and for the price its really a win win.  I tested the mic and I can hear my heart beat when I put it up to my chest its that good.

So I've just mounted the rode video micro to the device holder - using the 360 mount by DJI.  I still get significant fan noise - more than I was expecting or hear on youtube videos of other samples.

Any ideas?

The Osmo's audio recording is not 'perfect' right now, sorry about that. In the next firmware, the fan would be muted in the DJI GO App to reduce the annoying noise from the fan, hope that will bring you a better using experience and please pay close attention to DJI's office release about the update soon.

The principle is similar to the built-in camera in Inspire 1. For Inspire 1, the cooling fan is built in to protect critical sensors, ensuring that normal temperatures are maintained and the camera can function properly. When the sensor temperature exceeds 30 ℃, the fan is automatically activated. The fan is turned off when the temperature drops below 20 ℃.

That sounds great - and should work... but in normal operation doesn't the unit heat up above 30c/86f easily?
