I am a brand new user to the Phantom 2 and my Phantom descend's very slow. Is there a way to speed this up? Also does the I phone app only work with the Phantom 2 Vision Plus or will it work with the Phantom 2?

It comes down at 2 meters/second to avoid the vortex and loss of control resulting a crash.

There actually is a way to speed it up in every direction. Go into the software and change the mode to manual. Full control there but let it be said, as an unexperienced pilot, you'll crash it within seconds, guaranteed!

Faster vertical descent = ring vortex = crashed Phantom.

If you want to come down really, really fast, just put both sticks down and to the center, you will be down in just a few seconds.  Just uncontrolled and results in a severe crash every time.

Yeah both sticks down can cut your motors be warned.

You can descend quickly by spiraling. Forward pitch + slight roll + reduced lift, all combined. As gerry said a straight down descent is limited to 2 m/sec

Is 2 m/sec guaranteed to prevent ring vortex state?

The only thing that is guaranteed is death.

I think really the only guarantee in flight is that it will come down.
2m/sec is dji way of mitigating VRS (Vortex Ring State).

That is VERY true, what goes up WILL come down.

Does that apply to taxes?

I think one guarantee is that take offs and landing will always be equal.

In other words, if it takes off, it WILL land. I did years as helicopter crew, USN swimmer, it always worked out, just not always as planned!

Not necessarily, you took off in one piece, but landing in 1 piece is no guarantee.  It's just going up and coming back down will be equal.

Can someone tell me if ATTI allows faster descent?  Is the GPS elevation signal used or not, to limit descent?  Or is the baro sensor used (and still in the solution in ATTI)?

I have flipped to Manual while out of harms way and let it be known, newbies, it will suddenly descend, if you don't give it throttle to keep in the air.  So, yes, Manual can get you out of the clouds fast, but you will probably switch back to ATTI or GPS rather soon, out of shock.

The GPS and Baro are what is limiting your straight vertical descent to 2m/sec to reduce VRS.  Manual can actually invert the craft allowing for a truly extreme decent profile. ie. ground coming up really fast and the pilot maxing out his depends undergarment.

The quickest safest way to descend is by using a horizontal descent profile.  Side to Side, Back and Forth, My preferred is a Spiral.  Lets you find the sweet spot and hold it until your at the Altitude you want.
