But there has to be something really good behind those $1,700 ;)

My biggest concern would be , the Phantom 3 battery's  are not compatible with the Phanton 4. Another way for DJI to get our hard earned cash

True, I bet that bird is going to me awesome from the leaked information around.  Question will be is what will be the difference between the Intel and GoPro lines soon to be out.

Interesting that they're targeting $1700 but the category is "enthusiasts", rather than professionals as per the P3P above it.

Curious how they differentiate and what impact it will have in the built in tech. Maybe a sign that the P3P will be the only professional Phantom released and that any new pro unit will be Inspire level........

Neither will I lol. My P3A has everything it needs and then some. I don't think it would be a smart idea to release another product. I would have waited until August- September. But hey, they know what they are doing.

iPhone sales tactics showed people will buy the newest model just because of 1 or 2 new features.
Perhaps a universal shell (similar to how 250 racing frames are open and free) would be beneficial (not for DJI of course), so previous customers can simply swap parts, or upgrade.

I.e. The P2 frame is similar to the P3. If the frame was accessible to allow parts to be swapped.., people could upgrade ESC's, motors, cameras, gimbals etc. Maybe even replace individual arms, for various shapes or landing gears.

I guess there are reasons for companies to build drones as a complete single unit (bug fixes for one), but it would be cool to see a 'whore' drone takes can take anything.

I would understand that you'd be willing to upgrade for another $1,000. But not $1,700 for a few for more features. Because at the end of the  day, I don't think anyone would pay $700 more for anti-collision and more small features that will likely appear in P4...

What is the source for the price photo? Or does someone have way too much time on their hands to make it up?

Enthusiasts could be more than professionals!

For $1700 it better be a smaller Inspire 1!

If it's a same airframe/design with a few pops and bangs then they can forget it!

To be honest the pricing is not bad ( If it actually competes with the Yuneec H ).. Personally we will be looking at this product closely and REALLY HOPE they have done something with the sensor or codec! If so, this means the Phantom "4" is not coming until atleast the end of the year.. I wrote my full thoughts here for anyone who wants to read ;) Thanks for this great info though!

I'd happily pay the extra just for a better camera (larger sensor, say m4/3 like the inspire).

I whole heartedly agree with you. It better have some significant improvements, like camera with a F-stop capability, potential to somehow zoom the lens, and FPS at a very high rate to make me happy.
Just better motors won't do it.
We don't need more range with the LOS requirement.
Soo we'll wait and see.
DJI rarely disappoints, and that has been true all along.

Just sounds a little odd.  The whole thing just sounds homemade.  Why would they put $1700 as their price point when all of the other price points end in 99?  And what is the 2nd reason below the prices, I only see 1 reason.

What you have to ask yourself is what would you pay $500.00-$800.00 more for and hope to get knowing where the Inspire sits...
Better Camera/Interchangeable Camera?
Hex?
Retractable Gear?
Parachute?
Upgradable platform?
Who knows..but all will find out soon enough....

All I know is I am glad I waited...been thinking about a P3 for a while now and just when I thought it was time...well, I can wait a few more weeks...

"All I know is I am glad I waited...been thinking about a P3 for a while now and just when I thought it was time...well, I can wait a few more weeks..."

When the P3 was released, it was an easy decision to move up from the P2.
The P3 is about 10 times better in areas that make a big difference.
The new machine is looking like costing twice as much as the Advanced - it is going to be twice as good?
Or is it just going to have a bunch of gimmicks the guys from marketing thought would sell?
Things like object avoidance (that doesn't really work), digital zoom (the perennial forum favourite) or cup holders.
We can only wait to see what they release.

I predict:
- new improved shell no more cracks
- basic forward obstacle avoidance just like the yune ...

"It's going to be a tough year considering the competition has caught up"

Really?  Perhaps you can point out these wonderful new machines.
I haven't seen anyone else offering anything to come close to Lightbridge so far.
And I'm still waiting for something else that performs as well.
