When I chose pano and 180 forward the head spins around and does 180 pano the other way. What am I doing wrong. Baffled.

It's not actually a problem. When you select pano 180 degree, you'll active the selfie mode, so the camera will point at you and pan 180 degrees to render a selfie panorama.
