If i had one, i will never take it off.
Use it at every flight. All bright light which comes from up (sun or clouds) makes picture pale, with lower contrast. Direct sunlight makes annoying lens flares. Lens hood also protects lens.

When the sun is low to the horizon and you are flying towards the sun the lens hood reduces / eliminates lens flare in the video.  Works better with the camera pitched down a bit.

More usefully, it helps prevent the props casting shadows across the lens when the sun's high in the sky.

I love this!  I think I will make about 4 of them tonight with Guinness cans (ha)...may roll them backwards as they are already black.

They look quite difficult to get right, you'd better drink a few more to be sure.
