Hey everyone, I am picking up a pair of Samsung's VR goggles here soon and I was wondering if anyone has had success with using these as a set of FPV goggles on a phantom 3 advanced. I've done some searching on google but can't seem to find any definitive answers about how to do it. The general consensus is the VR goggles need to be modded to accomplish it. Does anyone have a guide or some advice about how to do this? I have both the DJI GO app as well as the Litchi app. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone have a working set up that they wish to share what they did to get it working?

I am using a Galaxy Note 5 (first Android device for me ever!) and have downloaded Litchi, yet to fly with it as too much rain of late but hopefully soon!!

It works!
Had to bump this back up, through some fiddling and the good work of others,
Firstly, you will need to download the Package Disabler Pro ap from the Android Store
Once downloaded, you will need to disable "Gear VR Services" (this does not remove it, just parks it until you decide to re enable it if you need to)
Then download Cardboard ap and that should be pretty much it, Litchi has a setting and once selected, the camera moves with your head, quite amazing..

Cool! So the software side of things should work. Wouldn't one need to physically mod the VR glasses as well to allow the usb cable to plug in?

I was running with a P2V+ V3.0, no cables required...must be an issue with the newer tech requiring cables..LOL!

do you have to do this to use cardboard apps? What if you dont? Would 3d fpv work or is it a cardboard app?

I downloaded cardboard and ran litchi,
Had download an ap for the samsung to disable its inherent VR ap that it wanted to run with these goggles,
once done, it worked...

I wonder how you connect the rc controller to the phone because the Samsung gear VR has a build in usb connector??

I use it with my iPhone and a cheap VR head set from eBay

Gear VR will NOT work with any device that requires the cable to connect to the micro/lightning port.
The only way around is to hack the Gear VR by removing the USB hinge that holds your device in place. Its better if you just purchase a VR BOX 2.0 for $25 or less.

That's a pitty, Had one that works with my Samsung Note 3 but I sold the N3 and VR glasses. Now I have the S7 edge it came with the Gear VR, I'm very disapointed. Will order another one.

The Shinecon VR arrived today. Wow what a differents compare to the Samsung Gear VR. The Shinecon fits better and the image is much scharper than de Gear VR. Installed the EZ disabler app than uncheck the VR service,  put the cardboard app on my S7 and it works with the Litchi app. I'm happy.

yes the usb cable from the rc to the Android device, in my case a Samsung S7 edge, works like a charme.

Try these and they head track the gimbal !!

Hi, I have new Samsung gear VR and if I connect some flash disc or something via additional bottom USB slot - it´s working ! so there is a data conection between this slot and phone in goggles, but if I connect controller, nothing happens some idea ?

I know this is an old thread, but perhaps someone can answer this question.  I've got FPV up and working with my P3S, litchi and my Gear VR/Note8.  My question is, since there are not C buttons, how can I rig up a camera button of some kind?  Is there a way to use the "with controller" that came with the Gear VR as a camera button?  That would be ideal...  Or any other bluetooth device?  Thanks for any info.

You use the camera buttons on the RC.
