But actually, no reason it would not work. The radio waves can penetrate the cardboard or whatever as well as it penetrates plastic. As long as there is no water or metal in the thing. Think about it. The P3 has a plastic shell over the antenna, which is really nothing more than a piece of coax with the center conductor exposed the proper amount for the frequency. There may be a slight attenuation, again depending on the material it is made out of. Wood would be bad. In fact, it would make for a nice, neat looking package to embed the reflector between 2 pieces of white plastic. So long as the curve was correct, it would work just fine. You could even make a directional dish antenna, same method. Just like the lnb on a satellite tv receiver. You do not need the shiny surface to be in the front. Also, aluminized mylar, like that found in survival blankets, works very well.
