Just browsing through the manual for the Phantom 4 will leave one mystified. I don't know if the inaccuracies are an oversight or Dji's attempt to cover all the bases, but I suggest that Dji consider using the services of a professional technical writer and editor/proofreader. Your customers will thank you. Here are just a few examples:
Phantom 4 manual, page 11
The Obstacle Sensing System is disabled in S-mode (Sport), which means the aircraft will not be able to automatically avoid obstacles in its flight path. Be vigilant and stay clear of nearby obstacles.
Page 15:
The aircraft cannot avoid obstruction during the Failsafe RTH, therefore, it is important to set an suitable Failsafe altitude before each flight. Launch the DJI GO app and enter “Camera” and select “MODE > Advanced Settings > Failsafe mode” to set the Failsafe altitude
Page 16
Aircraft can now sense and actively attempt to avoid obstale during FailSafe RTH, provided that the light
condition is ideal for the Obstacle Sensoring System. The details on how the aircraft will behave during obstacle avoid is listed below
Also page 16:
Ensure the battery level is more than 50 % for the Intelligent Flight Battery. And the aircraft is in either P-mode or S-mode. Then follow the steps below to use TapFly:
***notice, this directly contradicts the instructions on page 11***
Page 19, again contradicting page 11:
Using ActiveTrack
Ensure the Intelligent Flight Battery has more than 50% power and the aircraft is in either P-mode or S-mode. Then follow the steps below to use ActiveTrack:
So, obstacle avoidance either will or wont work in s-mode and during rth?
Tapfly, will it or won't it work with obstacle avoidance in s mode?
