Since the latest firmware update I have seen this problem several times and read about it on "the other" forum. Upon a lost signal (sometimes, not always), it used to reconnect as the Phantom got closer. Now it does not. The only remedy is to close the DJI Go App completely, and re-open it. This is IOS version 2.7.1. DJI, can you explain this?

     We have run into this issue before. What we have done in the past was uninstall the application, reinstall it and see if that works. If that doesn't work do a compass calibration and an IMU calibration. The completion of these three things should fix the issue.
