Good Day,
I have bought a DJI Phantom 4 and after 2 days of flying (1:04 hours) the Phantom fell out of the sky.

I was flying when the Phantom 4 started to climb to 177meters while the max altitute was set to 120m. I tried to lower the phantom manually but it didn't respond. After a few seconds the phantom just fell out of the sky.

In the log i see it is climbing to 177 m. It get's warning that max altitude mode is activated but whatever i did it kept climbing. When it reaches 177 m it is starting to lower till 164m and then the log ends. I think the software has crashed there and the phantom then starts to fall. It fell 164 meters.
What can be the cause of this and how is this solvable?

Thanks

Sorry for your loss.
It sounds like your P4 is going to be toast after falling 164m.
Have you contacted DJI ??

If i connect my ipad to my pc i have to set it up as a new device.
The only thing that is installed on my ipad is the DJI Go app.

Can i configure it as a new device, install DJI Go again, login and see the log files?
Or are they stored at the ipad?

I set the limit to 120m and when it started climbing i tried to bring it home but it didn't respond

I was flying at max 60m but it climbed by itself (i didn't do that)

Battery was full when i started and when it crashed it had 63% left

From the log you got three warnings then it went of on a waypoint mission to 187ft, did you do see these warning on the device? Switching into atti mode may of stop it flying off!

There may be some other users on the forum that could go a bit more in depth and see more

When it started climbing i tried to stop waypoints and lower the phantom, but nothing happened and a few seconds later it dropped to the floor. I didn't change a mode, it must have done it by itself

HealthyDrones only gives a brief summary and in this case it doesn't give any clues as to what actually happened.
You might do better to go to http://www.phantomhelp.com/LogViewer/Upload/
Follow the instructions to upload your flight record.

Come back and post a link to the report it provides

I just uploaded the flight plan. I'm a software developer and if i see the log i can only get one conclusion. In the NaviGo it's climbing to much (above my 120m max altitude setting). I then canceled the NaviGo and tried to manualy lower the Phantom. A few seconds later the log stopped. I think the software fully crashed and the complete drone stopped working?

Strange behavior of your AC...Sorry for your loss.

I was wondering why do you have this in the flight log's:

   1m 37.9s        P-GPS        17satellites        26.6ft        0mph        17.9ft        91%        16.121V        4.034V        4.039V        4.025V        4.023V        0.016V        Aircraft lower than the minimum altitude of 3.0m.
   2m 28.5s        P-GPS        17satellites        45.3ft        0mph        212.8ft        88%        15.957V        3.991V        4V        3.986V        3.98V        0.02V                Aircraft lower than the minimum altitude of 3.0m.

- You are at 26.6ft and 45.3ft but you have warning saying that the Aircraft is lower than the minimum altitude of 3.0m (=9.84ft). Maybe there's a glitch in the software or a malfunction in the Barometer.
- You can see also at least 2 warnings (Waypoint altitude is below 10m/32ft) but in this moment you are in "P-GPS" Mode and not in "Navi go".

I think it's a regrettable lost due to a Hard or Software malfunction.

I see it says your Max battery temp is 112.9 degrees F.  The battery's specs say that it is safe to operate up to 104 degrees F. Your battery may have overheated, effectively killing it and thus, dropping your bird from the sky.

You should plan on getting it back to DJI so they can examine the electronics. It doesn't look or sound like pilot error.

I do have Wi-Fi on my ipad and also figured out how to upload the flight logs.

The battery i used during the flight is a brand new battery. The health is 100% and it is charged once. The weather outside was about 14 degrees celsius.
I didn't get any battery warning and the battery information within the app said and still says everything is OK.

Besides that the phantom started to climb above the max altitude level and wasn't responding to the controller.

What happened to the record on phantomhelp which starts at 1 minute and 19 seconds. The first three entries 1:19.6 - 1:19.8 seem to indicate major power problems ?

Isn't that just the startup of the Phantom?
Because it is onlye for a few miliseconds and then returns to normal values?

Sorry bro.

Is it just me or is this almost obviously a bad calibration issue.  Bird thought it was going somewhere else, especially coupled with the bad altitude info???

The HD "warnings" aren't warnings.
They are notifications.
Most are informing that the  Phantom is on a waypoint mission and the two you mention are advising that the Phantom is no longer in waypoint mode but is now in P or GPS mode.
GPS_Atti is the way that is shown in HD

Looks like it's just you.
The course flown has several long perfectly straight sections.
The characteristic of a poor compass calibration is the inability to fly straight and instead making curves and spirals when straight flight  is attempted.

The flight data doesn't point to an obvious cause but it shows what the problem is and helps eliminate several things that have been guessed at.
The key points I note are that the P4 climbed past the max altitude set at 7:51 while in a waypoint mission.
It recognised the altitude limit but kept climbing.
AT 8:08 the mode switched from the waypoint mission to P-GPS and it under normal circumstances it should have been possible to bring it back from there.
A complicating factor would have been that the P4 was almost straight up more than 500 ft  above home point so it  would have been difficult  to maintain good signal at this angle - but if signal was broken, the Phantom should have hovered in place and not continued  to climb.
However it kept climbing until 8:20 @583 feet.
The flight  record ends 3.6 seconds later with the Phantom having descended under power at 3.5 m/sec.

I can't tell what commands were being given and how the  Phantom responded (or not) but comparison with the Go app playback would show this.
This all looks suspicious enough that I believe it's a case for DJI to deal with.
I don't see signs of any obvious operator error in the material available.
DJI will be able to access the "black box recorder" in the Phantom and see more than is visible to us.

I hope they  are able to resolve this for you.
