As you can see here, these waterfalls are more like springs coming out of the canyon and dumping in to Crooked river, there is more waterfall that I found on the way here but not on this video.

     That was wild!  The springs were cool enough, then there is that serious cliff above them!  I did not expect that at all.  Good cinema.  

     Were you able to see the falls from your perch (with the gang)?  Any idea why they have the access ladders or is tourism an extreme sport in Oregon?  Welcome back again!

ALOHA!!! I have done some research on this spring and I cant find any, I went to the Ranch office and no one knows about it.  I think they might want to keep people out of it because of all the metal pipes all over the cliff and on the ground.  There is no hiking trail to it at all.

     Now, that is getting strange.  Did the ranch people see the video?  With all the piping and scaffolds it looks more like and industrial project than a natural spring.  The platforms have to serve some purpose.  What are the houses or buildings on top the cliff?

     Here in Hawai'i, we have structures like that that were aquaducts at one time.  But they never hung them off of humongous cliffs!  It would be interesting to get some close-up shots of the structures down there.

I must go back and and get much closer, as you can see from the video, I was very far from it, there is no trail to get to them, maybe its a safety hazard, but why wold they just clean it up and announce it to the world that they have these waterfalls close to the river, I got some pictures but are not that great oh and did you see the tunnel next to the big waterfall?

     Yeah, that is why I think it might be an old aquaduct.  The Pali behind my house is full of tunnels that go half way across the island into Central Oahu.  They were built over 100 years ago and still in use.  The high pressure of the water is also an indication of an aquaduct at the lower end of the water route.

     Here is something I found on Historic Irrigation Systems in the Bend area.  Also, did you know that the name Owyhee is a colloquialism for Hawai'i?

     Check the 4th paragraph mention of the Crooked River.

     Yup, they are probably springs (there are dozens of them in the cliff wall) and the iron may be from a failed or temporary effort to tap the water.  It appears that the water may be coming out of lava tubes from the formation "and of good quality".  I found a rather lengthy paper (200 pages) on the hydrology.  Interesting, but too big to attach.

     Actually, there are a lot of Hawai'ian names in the Pacific Northwest.  Many of the place names appear to come from before western contact.  Owyhee appears to be from after contact though.  Some of the weather patterns and the ocean drift favor taking Polynesian Navigators to the Pacific Northwest.  Cool huh!

If I remember correctly, the water for Earth2o comes from Opal Springs witch is on the other side of the river about a mile away.
