Hi all. When I plug in my Android Xiaomi mi pad 2 to my RC unit, I don't get the prompt to choose an app to use - the tablet displays it's charging instead. Any ideas on how to change it back to checking for software?

In settings under 'developer options' set the switch 'USB debugging', then scroll further down to 'Select USB Configuration' and change from 'charging' to 'Media Transfer Protocol'.

At least that's how it appears on my Nexus 7 (2013).

Also you may find you need to set this each time. That was what I found on the Nexus.

Maybe you need to 1st switch on developer mode:
Go To "Settings > About Phone > MIUI version
Tap "MIUI version" until developer mode appears.

Good point, It's that long ago since I enabled it I'd forgotten

I've followed all your good advice, but there's no 'charging to media xfer protocol' anywhere - I suspect this is the key and it doesn't appear in the settings

Try to drag the notifications bar down when you connect the RC and APP.Normally you'll see one notification that says "Connected for Charging touch for other USB Options.  Touch that and select the appropriate mode.

Hi Paladin,

I have tried this but when I click on File transfers (in USB connection options), it goes straight back to "Charging". Does this on my HTC M8 (never used to), works fine on my Nvidia Shield. I use the shield mostly but would be nice to be able to use the phone as back-up when the battery dies on the tablet.
Any ideas?

I'm not so familiar with HTC phones but you can double check the USB debugging option in your android system settings. If it is convenient, you can try to reset your drone to factory.

The phone factory reset if it is convenient after back-up. I think some plug-ins or apps lead to this strange issue.

You may be on to something there Paladin. Other drone apps I have installed are Altizure, DroneDeploy, Litchi, Pix4D and Vertical Studio. Maybe I should uninstall them one by one to see if any of them make a difference. If not I will try the factory reset.

I'll let you know what happens.

Hi Paladin,

I uninstalled all the other app one by one to no avail. I then did a factory reset as you suggested and I'm still having the same problem. within the DJO GO app I cannot set the USB to MTP, it just goes straight back to charging mode.  GRRR.

Any ideas?

Plug phone to a computer. Change to mtp mode. Connect to RC. Alt,from settings, check storage, usb connection if available

Thanks for your effort but if other devices can work well with your RC, it is possibly a compatibility problem.

I'm beginning to think it is. Shame because it used to work really well especially in the sun, a great little back up.

Ok.  I asked because a number of people,  myself included,  experienced the no connection issue on devices that previously worked fine.  Turned out to be the Hdmi module.  Take the cover off of it and it worked fine.

If in Android 6, check that the app has all permissions turned on.
Settings, apps, permissions.

Mtp mode is a long term pain for some Xiaomi models

Thanks for all the input guys. I believe I have found a workaround. I power up the RC, plug the USB into my phone and the list comes up asking which app I want to use. I select DJI GO which loads up but does not connect. I press the home screen on my phone which takes me out of the app than I select the DJI GO app icon on my homescreen which takes me back to the app which is now connected.
