Hi there

How can I edit my moviefiles from the OSMO in Final Cut Pro or iMovies.
I can't open either MOV og MP4 files i either of the app's.

What can I do?

Interesting. I say 'interesting' because I can load Osmo files (.mov) into the time-line without any problems (FCP X  v10.2.3).

The Osmo files are imported into the appropriate Event, the range (or ranges) are set on the clip and an 'E' or 'W' puts them into the appropriate place on the timeline.

Exactly what happens when you try this or something similar?

When I try to open a MOW file copied from the OSMO, it says:
The dokument “DJI_0007.MOV” can't open. Imovie cant open files i the format “QuickTime-film”

When I try to open a MP4 file it says:
The dokument “DJI_0004.MP4” can't open. Imovie cant open files i the format “MPEG-4-film”

What happens in FCP?

Has this been a problem ever since you bought the Osmo?

I edit my OSMO 4K material perfectly well and happily in FCPX.  I can't speak for iMovie because I don't use it.

It is the same problem i Final Cut Pro.

I take the files from the SD card and copy them to my MacBook and then try to open them i iMovie or Final Cut Pro.

I have just received my OSMO so this is the first time I try it.

OK. Next questions:

(a) If you click on the files in 'Finder' does QuickTime Player play them OK?

(b) Have you tried re-formatting the card in the Osmo, and then recording some clips?

If you can view the clips without any problems in QuickTime Player, that would suggest that the files are OK.

In FCP X, at what stage do you get problems -- is it when you import a clip into an event?

How familiar are you with FCP X? Is it something you have used before?

Yes - a couple of times before.
Should I use another editing app?

That's why they take the trouble to write manuals - you could try reading them occasionally.

Here is a tutorial talks about DJI OSMO 4K Video in FCP/Adobe Premiere Pro/Avid MC workflow. It may give you some hints.

Here is a tutorial talks about DJI OSMO 4K Video in FCP/Adobe Premiere Pro/Avid MC workflow. It may give you some hints.

Not a good tutorial as it contains basic errors -- at least as far as editing Osmo 4K in FCP X is concerned..

e.g. "Since we can’t import DJI OSMO 4K videos to Adobe Premiere, Avid, FCP directly due to the codec incompatibility and high resolution, the easy workaround here is to transcode OSMO 4K footage in .MP4 or .MOV to a more editing-friendly format in proper settings(1080p would be better). Along with some help from third-party software like Brorsoft 4K Video Converter for Mac, it can be done effortlessly."

So far as  FCP X is concerned, it's just plain wrong. You don't need to transcode the footage beforehand, as you can import  an Osmo-generated clip directly into an event, and from there into the timeline,  without the slightest problem.

And if you did decide, for whatever reason, to transcode the footage, this can be done by FCP X on import.

(I've no idea what he means by "1080p would be better". Why would you want to convert your 4k footage into 1080p?)

If you're running on an older Mac, and it's struggling, you can always get FCP to create proxy files and use those for editing, switching to the original files for generating the final output.

Any comments from anyone?

The best editing format for iMovie is AIC while the best editing format for FCP X is Apple Prores codec.

Another easy method is to use iDealshare VideoGo to convert the unsupported video files to Final Cut Pro more supported Apple ProRes or iMovie supported H.264
