Hi All

first off nice to see DJI have a forum

now here is my problem my Phantom is showing altitude as being -600ft to +600ft when it is on the ground i know the barometer is not 100% correct but the readings im getting seem to be way to far out, every thing on me phantom is up to date & Ive tryed calibrations but it dont seem to help.

one more thing i noticed is that my Phantom seems to slowly get lower and lower but its strange because the altitude readings & the phantom lowering seems to calm down when its been running for a while.

hopefully there is a way to fix this

here are some pictures.

I would do an IMU calibration in the assistant first.
Normally the error can be 20 feet or so, but if its this large then you may need to have it looked at if the calibration does not fit it.
What's it like when you have GPS lock ? as I thought it reads altitude from the home point the same as the distance reading.

It sounds to me like something is clogging a vent hole (but I don't really know the construction of the altimeter, so this is just a guess).

it holds fine in GPS lock it just don't hold its hight very well unless its been running for a while.

I don't think any altitude readings will even be close until you get a GPS lock...

i think i may open it up and have a look in side, it probably could do with a clean it makes for a good bug chopping tool so there is probably dead bugs in side it lol

Ok I've opened my phantom up and gave it a bit of a clean, there was a couple of loose wires connecting to the Naza controller Ive pushed them back in but it didn't help with the hight readings Im not sure what to do next i did send it to the dealer a while ago & they seemed to have fixed it at the time, but i don't know if its just faulty and i don't know if i should just contacted someone from DJI as i have hear the customer service is not to great.

has anyone got any more ideas on how to fix this ?

If you have done everything you have said you have done then I would say you have a defective unit.

Is this right ? i believed that the hight reading was from a barometer / altimeter in the Naza controller but this link below shows that its something in the compass

o and I've email DJI about my problem no reply yet

Wonder what the barometer/altimeter uses to determine height above sea level to make a baseline determination.  GPS coordinates?

But a baseline pressure has to be known at zero distance above ground level since variations in temperature and movement of pressure systems in the atmosphere will cause errors.
