Dear DJI,

Can you please justify why a DJI Mavic cost nearly £250 more to buy in the UK than it does in the USA?

You charge $999 in the USA and £999 in the UK

Your just ripping us off

I agree with this. I see a video and some reports on the price of the drone in the US at $999 and think oh great lets go buy it, but then I see it says £999! How does that work eh? I won't buy this until it actually makes sense!

Remember we are charged 20% VAT here which works out around £156...  going on the exchange rate . The drone in gbp is around £760 give or take .  So by this point we are approaching the £999 asking price .. admittedly about £50-60 more pricey here

Yeah exactly. Whilst we always appear to pay more and mostly we do, the us peice excludes state specific taxes which they add on to the price on checkout. Ours is 20% add on. If the sterling was stronger than the euro finding a good euro dealer might work but sterling sucks at the min

The UK is definitely mostly Taxes and Tariffs.
Other slight influences such as slightly higher postage (I ship a fair bit of stuff from China and its cheaper to ship to the US than the UK), Protection against currency fluctuations (Dollar is a more stable currency, especially at the moment), People in the UK generally put up with slightly higher prices on most things.

The Australian price being similarly high to the UK is strange though as Australia and China have a free trade agreement.

£925 to purchase the fly more combo in China, £1250 in the UK.
You could almost buy yourself a return flight to China to purchase it.

US prices do not normally include sales taxes (8-10%) while UK ones include VAT @ 20%. $1100 vs £830 ish - which is close.

The taxes in Israel are even higher, the phantom 4 is priced here at around 1560$+, and it was higher when it just arrived a couple of months ago, the only way to buy DJI products with the US price is to actually go there and bring it with you, if you're lucky you will avoid customs, if not you will pay as much as it cost in your country or even more so it's risky, I bought my P3A second hand and I'm very happy with the price I got it for, it's frustrating how's everything cheaper in the US, not even mentioning the costumer service here.

Its simple - most people will just pay 999,- in the shop without searching for global prices before. People are just stupid and DJI claps theirs hands that only maybe 2% will realize the odd pricing. "999" looks good no matter the currency.

I moaned about this the other day. I've since discovered it's actually fair. DJI ship their products directly to the U.K. from China which incurs import taxes and VAT. Given the poor rate of the Pound we are probably just about on par with other countries. It's similar to the petrol argument. We pay a lot more than most countries but 3/4 of the cost is duty paid to the tax man. It's crap but it's the way it is.

People in Europe like to pay higher prices/taxes/tariffs. If the customer likes to pay more then it makes business sense to up the price in that region, supply and demand.

Price for bundle is 1499€ in Finland. That’s about 1621 USD and £1079.
Actually I’m going on vacation to Usa / Hawaii in November-December. Consider buying Mavic from there. Probably have to buy new charger for it because Finland is 230V.
Also wondering how does warranty works in this case, if mavic damages under warranty, do I have to send it to usa?

It's nothing like £1079. It's €1303 based on today's exchange rate at £1/€1.15. So for the bundle at €1499 you are saving about £50 only...for the hassle I know what I'd do

So I just had a chat with "Customer Support" on the DJI website just to ask some questions regarding my prior post about the AU$500 price increase from America to Australia.
And I was told this: "the tax in AU is higher than US and the handling fee ,shipping fee, customs clearance fee"
Firstly, from what I found with a quick google search the average sales tax is around 9% so that explains perhaps $30 of the $500 at most.
The DJI website claims "FREE SHIPPING" right next to the price tag, so I don't think I should be told that's part of what I'm paying extra for.
This leaves just "handling" and "customs clearance".
I haven't done all the research in the world, but I'd just like to know how those two things amount to AU$450+ dollars?
Perhaps someone could give some insight into this, please.

So I just had a chat with "Customer Support" on the DJI website just to ask some questions regarding ...

The drone would be subject to various taxes in Australia hence the inflated price. Customs import duty then on top of that, we have a flat 10% sales tax GST (yes, you pay GST on top of and including the customs duty). Add onto that a processing charge of $50.

http://www.dutycalculator.com/co ... ing-into-Australia/

Let's assume customs duty is 10%:

$999USD = $1310.65AUD * 1.1 * 1.1 + $50 = $1635.89 AUD

That's pretty close to the quoted price.

So this free shipping does that include dhl import tax i think not so get ready for the texts of the ...

In Europe and in USA they have what's called trade agreements, these are based around duties and taxes, in Europe our taxes and duties are higher than USA because of the agreement we made with China and this is why Mavic has different price for different regions, I think people in U.K. Can count themselves lucky, your sterling has 7/8 % of its value since pre sales of Mavic, I think if sterling continues to drop you will see the price of all DJI products rise, if they do not it would be cheaper for other Europeans operating in euros to buy directly from U.K. and I can't see that happening.
And no there won't be any extra duties as all DJI products are first imported tu EU and then distributed around Europe.

DJI or any China selling stuff international will use USD.  It doesn't matter what country you are in but they will price it in USD then it will get convert from USD to your country currency.   So if you want good price then wait till USD is lower.  Canada use to be par with USD but now it is getting higher now so no more shopping in US for me .   I got my mavic from DJI site in USD because local store is cost more even with the exchange rate.
