I think with Mavic DJI were one step away from creating the perfect drone!
Follow-me, Obstacle avoidance, small, foldable, you name it! Awesome job guys!
And perfect timing - same time as Karma is anounced, lol Spotlight is yours indeed!

However, it would be awesome to make one more step and make Mavic waterproof, ensuring that all watersport fans would not look ever for another brand!
Camera could also be a bit better, at least with P4 quality, although this wouldnt be a stopper for me. However, lack of water start is! Way too important, if I don't want to go to shore every 20 mins, which I most definitely don't.

I would imagine this is really difficult to achieve, look how long it took apple to waterproof the iPhone just slightly. A drone would be considerably more difficult than a phone.

Well, basically it needs to float, have some holes on the bottom for water to come out and of course the electronics needs to be coated.

The next version can not only fly but also swim and dive

It probably would be exponentially more expensive to completely waterproof this drone.

I suggest tie wrapping a block of styrofoam to it.

Right. Well, my 90% use case is OVER WATER. Last 10% are over FROZEN WATER (e.g. snow).

Just if it were water-proof...

If you made it water proof, then you'd lose the capability of cooling the motors.

I'm sure technology will catch up to this issue and solve it.   Might not be the next version, or the version after that -- but within a few years they will eventually figure out the waterproofing/water resistant tech needed to do it cost effectively.
