Does anyone know if thre is a way to update the Quadcopter firmware without a camera attached?  Unfortunately my X5 was stolen and I am trying to update the firmware to get the craft ready for sale.

No I do not believe you can update the Inspire one with out the camera installed and using the USB port in the camera or SD card. The Data port in the tail does not give you that option.

maybe you can borrow another camera from a friend or dealer near by?

Yeah, borrowing a camera from someone is probably the best idea. I don't know anyone personally but it could probably find someone with a little online investigation.
