With the phantom, I use to throw my keys and cell phone in the backpack a few feet while configuring the droe, and with the mavic it will be no different. Just toss my keys and cell phone in the nice bag that comes with the flymore, and I'm good to go.

During a compass calibration I always have no metal on me and I set the RC/iPad on the ground about 10ft away and I've never had any kind of compass issue.

well went out to a different park. Controller still showed mag interference and chk app. Did the compass calibration and it worked fine this time. after calibration no mag int message..flew in beginner mode and worked well. Stayed within boundaries. Active tracked worked well, RTH worked well. flies very nicely.. I wanted to go back to same park today but the winds right now are really up..may try later in the day if they die down.  Do you have to calibrate each time you move within a city, or only when it asks you..aware that it should indicate your new home point on the map..
The Mag Inf is a weird message to get if it will infact calibrate and work fine..I would expect to see that only when it can't calibrate and after a calibration attempt.

That's good it worked fine. If you calibrated at the same park maybe there's underground metal plumbing that was close to the surface.
The manual says to calibrate when you go to a new area, so there's no need to calibrate again if you go to the same park and you know you have a good calibration.

The manual is very incomplete and does not give people the information they need to fly. For example, the manual doesn't even mention focusing.  DJI needs to hire some people who know how to make a thorough and complete manual.  Relying on the current one will end in bad results and possible crashes.

Indeed the manual must be read especially for new users.

The manual is incomplete and not a good reference. It doesn't even mention how you focus the camera. DJI needs to provide an adequate manual for the Mavic.

What I got out of this video:

1. You have to smile a lot

Awwww, that made me smile!

I have to agree with another poster, as good as the tutorial is that incessant smiling is annoying at best.

At worst, it falls into that old adage to never trust anyone who smiles all the time, as they're hiding something!

I see your list, I'll answer some of the questions.
I don't have time to answer all but I'll also  ...

Evening, Ken.

First, I'm glad I ran across this thread, only just a day ago as it happens.  Good tutorial.  (Except for Ty's incessant smiling!)  And, it did motivate me to subscribe to DJI's tutorials on YouTube.  (My first ever YouTube subscription!)

Second, I note references to an updated manual, dated, I believe, 11/7/16.  Should I be seeing that show up in my Go app via an app update?

I've just looked on my iPhone, and the Mavic Pro User Manual v1.0 is dated 2016-10, and the Quick Start Guide 2016-09.

And, I've checked my iTunes to see if there was a Go app update, but there isn't.  (The version on my iPhone is v3.0.1.)

Please advise how I can get the new manual onto my iPhone, and also where I might be able to download a PDF of it for my desktop computer.

Thanks.

Attached is the manual if you want to download.
It looks like the Academy section is being updated and the manual/ videos will be up when ready.
What I do is download the manual PDF and print it out and take it to Kinkos and have it put in a binder for $5. It's a great way to reference something when you need the manual.

Thanks, Ken.  Glad to have the link, and I just downloaded it so I can have a "hard" copy.

From the title page, this appears to be the same as what is already on my iPhone.  Namely, "User Manual v1.0," dated 2016.10.

But, this comment, "The manual that was put out with today's date (November 7th, 2016) is a VAST IMPROVEMENT" from DRONE-flies-YOU six days ago (post #59), led me to believe that there is a newer version.

Have I misunderstood this?  I suppose I must have, elst you wouldn't have sent me the link to the v1.0 (2016.10).

But, I don't understand the date reference above.  Especially since I've had the Go app on my phone for ~3 weeks, which included the v1.0 (2016.10) I believe from when I first downloaded the app.

So maybe someone can clear this up for me. On page 9 of the Mavic user Manuel dated 2016.10 it shows the 5D button having a default setting for left and right as a zoom in/out. What is this zooming? I assume not the camera but if not then what? Not even going to try and speculate but was just curious. Thanks all!

Regarding metal interference with compass calibration -- how critical is this? I have four titanium plates in my skull that can't (easily) be removed. Should I be worried?

As far as I know titanium is non ferrous and should not effect a compass, BUT I'm am only guessing. If your aircraft is not flying perfectly then maybe try having someone else hold the compass during calibration.
