Osmo X5/Pro Audio Sync Issues Persist

Does anyone have any good tips to ensure that the Osmo X5/Pro keeps audio sync when recording with sound?

I'd say on about 10% of the clips I shoot on the X5/Pro the audio and video have sync issues that all need to be corrected in post before the footage can be used.

We always record real audio to a second system and just use the Osmo for sync with the second system track but the lack of quality / reliable sync in the Osmo audio makes that process a pain sometimes as you have to manually adjust the sync on some clips. To be clear, the second system audio and the Osmo audio sync perfectly but the Osmo audio is NOT in sync with the video (recorded by the Osmo to the same file, frustratingly enough), so lip sync is off noticeably.

Any ideas? Any indication DJI intends to finally fix this issue (seems it's been a problem going back to the Osmo release)?

There isn't much to help if your source footage and audio capture are not using accurate timecodes to sync in post.  If you ever use a clap board, that will give a pretty good manual sync point with a visual reference to the clap.  I've even just stood in front of the camera and clapped my hands when using a second sound recording device.  Lip Sync issues are always a pain.

Well, typically what we do with FCPX is just shoot. We feed a stereo mix from the second system or a shotgun mic into the camera and then FCPX is rock solid accurate at syncing second system to camera based on the stereo print or shotgun channel.

This works with every camera we've used (Canon, Blackmagic, Sony, etc) but it's problematic with the X5 because of the sound sync issues occasionally.

So yeah, we're going to have to start using a clapper board if we keep using the Osmo just so we can get a manual sync signal in case we have to repair our Osmo footage.

Shouldn't be a problem though. This is just basic, basic stuff (syncing the video and audio in camera).

Alternatively, you could use something like a Tentacle Sync box attached (Velcro'd) to the X5, jam synced to the TC generator on the recorder.

The recorder records the sound, and the Osmo records an audio time-code track.

That's what I use on my Osmo (X3) for synchronized recording.

Think you missed what I was saying.

I use a second system already. If I record a sync signal to the Osmo and the problem I'm having is that the Osmo is losing sync between it's own audio/video sometimes, then my second system will sync to a timecode track that is out of sync and thus also be out of sync.

My problem is 100% that the Osmo randomly loses sync on it's own audio/video recorded signal.

OK. I see what you mean.

Audio drift was a problem with the Osmo (x3) until earlier this year. Then dji issued a firmware upgrade which solved the problem and audio-video sync is now rock solid.

I'm surprised it's still around on the X5 if it was fixed on the X3 more than 6 months ago.

What do dji say?

Audio drift was also a problem for the Osmo+ on launch and only fixed recently. From what I read on forums the sound was actually fine, it was the video missing fames therefore putting it out of sync. If you have access to a local store perhaps try your X5 head on an updated Osmo grip and see what happens.

Just to let you know that I had the same issue with audio sync.
I've tested some settings and now is OK.

My SOLUTION:
I shot only on 1080 25fps/50fps or 4k 25fps/50fps.

I hope this will help somebody

But this is not an exception. It happens with all Osmo when it starts. However, Osmo and Osmo + are later fixed by firmware update. Could you confirm the fix has also applied to Osmo Pro. I am also a Pro owner, I also demand to know cause I was misled that the sync issue has been fixed across the board.

As most of the time, dji do not respond to something that is important to its customers.

Have there been any updates with this?  I'm having the same issue.  I spoke to someone at DJI today and was told the usual obvious stuff like checking firmware etc.  Anytime the rep didn't know an answer he kept putting me on hold to speak to a "specialist".  I finally asked if I could speak to this specialist as this rep very obviously didn't have enough training to help me and I was told that "specialists" don't take incoming calls.  I'm beyond frustrated with their tech support as this isn't the first time this has happened.   Anyway I just reinstalled everything and still no luck.  Not sure how they can market the x5 as a pro camera if it can't even keep sync with itself.

We apologize for the unpleasant experience with our support. Please help us to do the basic troubleshooting:
1. Does the original footage in SD card have the same problem?2. What SD care are youusing? Is it with high speed?
3. Have you tried different Player?
4. Do you use internal mic or external mic to record audio?
5. Have you tried to refresh the firmware by Trigger+record button+ power button?
Here is the tutorial video for your reference:

I've been trying to get my tentacle sync to work with my OSMO X3 and Davinci Resolve 16 and my Zoom H4N.  The Zoom TC is correct but the OSMO is off by a few seconds.  Frame rates, ect are all matching but its not lining up.
