I'm curious about what the Mavic serial number shows us.

The serial visible on the Mavicin the Dji refresh FAQ page:



doesn't give much away as to it's meaning, but usually serials have a structure that typically includes things like:
- a sequential production number;
- batch number;
- date of manufactur code;
- model code

etc. But I can't see anything like that in the Mavic serial.

Anyone care to specuate about what the Mavic serial reveals? In particular, I'm keen to see if the serial reveals a production number, date code etc.  

Any Mavic owners care to share their serials? By comparing Mavic serials, it may be possible to figure out Mavic production volumes and cycles, which could be handy.

Probably need to ask the NSA to help us crack the DJI code.

But I think a sequence of serials from Mavics, correlated by order date and kit ordered (plain Mavic/ Fly More kit), will probably give us enough clues.

Most likely serial is totally random and assigned in an internal DJI database, which then has the model, versions of hardware, etc.

The leading two digits corresponds to the product type. 08 is Mavic, while 09 is the gimbal. I'm guess the  "QD" at the 3rd and the 4th digits means "quad".

Head over to the MavicPilots forum site.. The serial number has been pretty much decoded already..
