Happy New Year everyone!

I recently saw a post where someone was shooting in fog and asking how to process the pic to make it look clear.  My advice was not to try at all but rather embrace the fog!

One of my favorite Inspire videos was shot on a foggy day and it added a wonderful element.   
Here's my video, it was all taken within a few blocks of my house on a foggy morning.

Last week I was traveling in the mountains.
It was quite foggy and I was hoping to shoot some video of it being able to rise above it.
What I ran into was so thick that you couldn't drive faster than 15mph.
I never put the bird up because it was so humid that when I finally did find a place to stop the car and got out, I was immediately very wet (almost like being rained on)
Not wanting to risk my investment, I passed. I was certain that even if I didn't crash into a tree or something, that there would be water damage.
Plus, I never fly out of LOS. Visibility was 10 feet. (3M)

Thanks for that!   Yeah, mine don't always turn out like mine either!    LOL!  

They can be hit and miss, the important thing is to not take a single shot at getting a great moment.  Practice is again and again, making small adjustments to settings and your flight, and maybe on the sixth attempt you'll capture lighting in a bottle.  

In this video I can point to cool rise above the tombstones into the fog.   I did that about four times.   The first time was pretty boring but I saw the potential.  By the fourth time I had the timing perfect, the settings right, and got one of my favorite shots of all time.

Nothing happens by accident so keep working on it!

Good to see you posting videos again!  We are having about 7-8" of snowfall right now. Hard to find some fog when you need it

I'm always hesitant about the fog as well, especially as dense as that. You're spot on to trust your gut, there probably would have been some water damage for sure.

I like the effect of intermittent flares through the trees, which enhanced the depth yet transparency of the forest. And I agree with you about keeping on practicing is the key.

Here's mine shot the other day with the X5R, although only in 1080, not RAW. I am based at an old WW1 aerodrome that is being rebuilt as a living museum, Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome in Essex, UK. I haven't processed the file apart from adding some music. Almost what I wanted, the buildings and scaffolded water tower poking through

Every time we fly there is a certain degree of risk.  For me I'm happy with a bit of extra risk to get extra special footage.  As soon as I bought the Inspire I acknowledged each Inspire flight could be the last!   Be the ball!  ;-)

Very Cool!  While flying try to go for longer periods before adjusting the camera angle, this is what breaks the magic.   Find an angle that works and stick with it.  Then edit out all the bits in between and you'll get an amazing end product.  

I understand you said this was basically unedited and unprocessed, but it looked like you were moving the camera quite a bit.

Jim,  I loved your video.  Am I correct that you are down under?  Here in the US, this could not have been done as a commercial piece without requesting a waiver from 14 CFR Part 107.51 which requires visibility be no less than 3 miles.

This wasn't a commercial piece, did it for fun.   I don't shoot with the drone commercially.

Plus the drone was never out of my line of sight, furthest it ever was from me is about 20 feet and visibility was more that that.

And yes, in Australia so all good anyway.

Cemeteries are beautiful and creepy at the same time , well done mate.  I finally purchased a new MAC with 5K resolution 27 inch screen ( might be a bit much )  and am really seeing what I have been missing , Just WOW.

Yeah, I love walking through cemeteries.   They did an interesting thing at that cemetery a couple of years back where they got actors to portray the people in each grave, telling their story in costumes of the day.

Pretty cool idea.

I'm curious to know how much better these shots would be with a P4P, really love the big sensor and improved data rate/compression.

Yeah, I happened to wake up early and looked outside.  Grabbed the drone and ran out the door as quick as I could!
