Nice. I was hoping for a direct overhead shot and there it was! Care to share any technical details of the shoot?

We shot with two Mavics.
Scott did the overheads (I tried one but was a little gunshy about getting hit, next time) and I did some of the long traveling shots and sweeping panos.
I don't have the info on shutter speed/ISO/Fstop handy but I will get them and post later.

Nice explosions of birds, very graphical, but don't you think you scare and disturb the birds who might feel the drone as a threat? Did you feel that the drones were upsetting the birds, or the opposite, they did not care at all ?

Wow. I guess I should have guessed that someone would have something negative to say about this great video. Oh, well, some of us -- probably a silent majority, in fact -- enjoyed and appreciate it for what it is. Thanks for posting it.

We were at least 350 feet above them and about 250 feet away to get the entire tree in frame, so we didn't disturb them.  The lake is actually on a relatively busy road and it was sunset rush hour, so it was more likely a truck or loud car.  But there was no way the drone affected them.....

The footage looks great to me. Spectacular effects from the gulls: I particularly liked the sequences where the birds take flight from the domed shape of the tree. You both seem to have made these shots sympathetically keeping distance and speed appropriate to your subject focus which a cinematic style encourages anyway. If these were some rare breed species I don't think it would make much difference, although birds that don't flock together in such numbers may be more territorial. Common gulls have become urban creatures and seem to adapt quite easily from gliding over a heavy windswept sea swell to the rooftops and streets of our coastal towns and villages, commonly venturing further inland.

Guys, watch out for Seagulls, when one starts going for your Mavic, GET OUT OF THERE! They call in reinforcements and you will have 10 on your tale. They can be territorial at times so be careful of that.

You have great stuff in there, but in my opinion whole video is too long and it looses the interest a bit because of that. Some of the parts definitely should be shorter.
Anyway I love the moments when the birds are starting from the trees and flying around below you.

Excellent video; you actually see slight murmurations in the flying similar to starlings.  Really lovely video.

Technical question; were you using ND filters?  Some of the overhead shots show the birds with widened wings, as if the shutter speed was slower resulting in the moving bird slightly blurred.
Or was it simply low light of dusk?
Either way, really great video.  Thanks for sharing it.
Cheers

Seagulls use to be very agressive with drones flying in their nesting cliffs and nesting season. In other situations you can fly very close, they ignore the drone. Have a look at the first footage from this video

We used a combination of prayer and liberal sphincter tightening.
But mostly we were lucky.
Egrets and Ibis tend to fly low over water so as long as we didn't go too low we were safe.

I keep forgetting to answer technical questions.
No filters were used in shooting this (although I have ordered some), it was shot at dusk which explains the slow shutter speed.
This was the first week we both had our Mavics so we were both pretty raw at shooting.
