My Panasonic 14 to 42mm lens was delivered today have just been doing some ground tests works perfectly.

Just one question is there any way to operate the zoom from the transmitter instead of using the slide on the App?

I'd love to see some footage...  from 14mm to 42mm.  Seems to be a good choice too.

HI Gybo102,

Here's the link also the link for the balance ring, just put the lens on camera switched it on and it works no setup until other than it has asked me to do a lens calibration.

Thanks for the info, Does the X5s allow the lens to collapse when you switch off the I2?

Yes it does and on start-up it just extends to its operational position.

In the hell hot Worcester - Western Cape.  It was 41C today and the summer heat must still come (prev. summer saw temps of 48C - 52C in the shade).  Here we light a fire to cool off!  Even the devil walks around here, whistling Home Sweet Home!!

FYI, I bought that lens and tried to mount it to the X5 and it would not physically fit.
They must have made some changes to the configuration of the camera when designing the X5S.
Just wanted to let others know this would not work on the X5 / X5R and why.

How does the I2 perform in those temperatures and what altitude are you at??
It was a guy on a forum the other day from Colorado flying at 8000 ft who was looking for some high altitude props for his I2.

The reason why I asked is because it seemed like there is lots of distortion with that lens. Or am I imagining this? If you go to the bottom of the camera settings and tap on profile, does it list the lens in there?

I have a PPL - so if the real deal is struggling I do not take the drones up.  The problem is not so much the drone, but the heat is too much for the tablet / phones and they switch off earlier than the drone...  When it is so hot I fly before 10:00 and after 18:00.  Regards.  (More 4K footage of the X5S and the Lumix please!)

the weird part is the distortion is worse on the zoomed end.  I have never seen that before in a "modern" lens... you may want to ordfer a few of those lenses and test the variability of them - I am well know at BH in NYC for asking them to open up 4-5 lenses so I can pick the best one - just make sure there is no re-stocking fee.

One quick question: your lenses are 95g more lighter then other lenses. Do you needed a balancing ring to make them heavy???

Hi Guys,

I have both an X5R on an Inspire 1 and an X5S on an Inspire 2.  I bought the Panasonic Lumix 14-42mm/3.5-5.6 HD lens.  It works fine on the X5S, but will not fit on the X5R due to the position of the mount.  Can anyone tell me if the Olympus 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens will work on both cameras?  It is the recommended unit for the X5R.

Hi Ray,
I have 14 -42 Oly and can confirm that it does fit on I1 X5  (very tight fit) but it does screw on without and modification. I have seen a post on you tube where someone filled down a small flat on the outside ring on the lens but seriously you don't need to go that far.
I have also had the Oly on my I2 for a very quick test flight over the top of my house. so still waiting for the right day to go and get some nice footage.

The I1 has only about 60.5mm clearance  and the lens is 60.1mm (the lens is not exactly centered so it touches the gimbal pitch motor, with the I2 no problems at all as it has a much larger clearance about 65mm.

I just received the balance rings for my Panasonic 14 to 42 mm lens.  It does not even come close to balancing.  Has anyone else found this to be true and does it work in this unbalanced state?

I don't have the 14-42, but found the same issue with the Olympus 17mm and the DJI balance ring, was simply way too heave, not to mention if you want to add an ND filter. I ended up using the 15mm balancing ring and 3D printing another ring to sit on this and it now balances perfectly. Seriously, how hard can it be to get right?

OK...I did not realize the lens extends when it is powered up.  When you apply power and the lens extends it then balances.  FALSE ALARM!

Sorry about that!

OK, so I do now have the Panasonic 14 -42, not test flown yet just bench tested, but balanced the 14-42 nicely with 15.9g (at the mid-point roughly 27mm). This was done with a 37-46mm step up ring, 46mm UV/ND filter and then 3D printed balance weight. No complaints from the gimbal and no noise at all..
