A Couple have been busted & accused in Utah, of voyeurism, using a drone.

Victims Jon and Rachel Henson homeowners and he's a drone enthusiasts himself. Saw a drone hovering 10-15' right outside his bathroom window.
So he followed up and found the drone, landing in a church parking lot. Eventually turning it into the police, which lead them to the culprits, from pics on the micro SD card..

A couple of "perverts" a man and his girlfriend were arrested when caught using their drone to spy into people's bedrooms and even their washrooms.

Thankfully they have been arrested & are now facing voyeurism charges. Hahaha
Told you so, about time these losers faced serious costly penalties. "Gaol" Time I hope. Lots of it

I am overjoyed tonight. Elated..

Drone sales were up 224% last year. So many drones in the air.

Please fly responsibly folks, guys and gals, kids. Trained chimpanzees too. Haha

Don't monkey around. ;-)

So, haven't those people heard of curtains? Or frosted windows on 'washrooms'?

Seems like you would hear the drone, unless they have unusually sound proof windows...or are used to the sound of a lawnmower right outside their windows ;-}

15' feet away, not so much.

Perhaps it was the sound, that alerted him. Otherwise perhaps not to notice it, at all.
Maybe the running lights were taped over too.

Things may not always be exactly what they seem......

This guy has burglary & theft prior records.
Criminal Record

That said, they could be trying to get into the porn business but getting useable shots like that would seem VERY difficult at best.
If the drone could see the intended victims, they would likely be able to see the drone even better.
I suspect they were using the drones to case the homes they intended to burglarize.

Spying in a persons washroom. What were they casing the soap or shampoo?

It was hovering outside the water closet. Hahaha
Maybe they wanted some fluffy new towels?

The lady of the house was incredibly beautiful...  So I don't think they were into burglary.
But so is the woman charged, see her picture here; so this is a strange case.

The dude has a previous charge, involving a Tanning Parlor indecent incident.

I see in one post that the FAA is also investigating weather FAA reg's were violated...DUH.
I hope they are fined as hard as the case where a $200,000 fine was imposed.
The charges this couple in Porntah  are facing are  misdemeanors.  These types of charges aren't very harsh but if FAA gets a shot at these jerks
They will wish they never had seen a drone (UAS ) in their lives.
Here's where law enforcement and FAA need to have some common ground and interface  to allow police to charge
owner with violating FAA  rules and regulations.  I have experienced this myself when my Phantom was shot at last week.
The Sheriffs deputy had no idea what is legal and what isn't.
Now I see where my local police dept is /has bought  their own UAS...A DJI drone and one of the other guy's drone.
I think that once law enforcement starts flying them they will hopefully have more understanding of the laws (civil ) and FAA  regulations as well.
Straighten up and fly right.....( my dad was a piolet in WW 2 so I heard that the whole time I was growing up )
Not enough positive things about "DRONES " is showing up in the news so we all need to cover each others butts.

I hope the court proceedings are published. At the very least, the ultimate sentencing and penalties.

Respect for all personnel, who have served proudly...

when my window faces out to where nobody is why should I have to have frosted window or close the curtains, ya they are perverts if they are flying outside my window.

Many luxury homes and high priced condos/apartments have a clear view to the ocean, or other wonderfully relaxing scenery.  From bedroom windows which go full length, floor to ceiling.
Closing off those million dollar views and landscapes would be counterproductive. It's the ability to look out, for many miles in several directions, are what bring those ultra high price tags. We have grown to expect having our privacy, but also want the freedom of seeing the scenic, awe inspiring vistas.

I flew last Thursday from a trail, originating in one of the more upscale neighborhoods in Tucson. The first 1/3 mile of the trail threads between two private property lots, so I went probably close to a mile or so up the trail before flying, just to be sure none of the local homeowners had any reason to think I was overflying their property or recording anything there.

Jerks such as the two in the Utah case make things bad for all of us.

'Why land in the church parking lot and leave unattended??'

Probably because there are more church parking lots in Utah than anything else.

That's the way it must be done, get out of people's faces, and they will start to stay out of all our space.
Many of the best, near wilderness areas around here, became showhome neighborhoods. $1M + Homes. With neighborhoods that back onto natural wooded areas. Many of my favorite wild game, foot & bike trails, became gravel trails, paved sidewalks. The new Country.

Flying in or near these areas is often pretty difficult. Not impossible.
There has to be a nice buffer zone like you created, between the realstate ranchers and us drone wranglers. Haha

Just Be an ambassador. Something which can very easy, as not littering. Never leave any sign that you were ever there.

& Always Leave the area, the way you found it, or better. "Don't leave behind any trash, you see"

I think at some point the pilot was likely aware that he had been discovered, and couldn't land the drone nearer to himself.  It's also possible that Church lot was at, or very near the recorded home point where he took off. Innocently.  He may have punched RTH and took off homeward himself, hoping to go back and receive it. But then it would have been too late. There's no way to know, other than, from  them who will be questioning the culprit in earnest...

He needs a life time Ban from drones, and church parking lots.... ;-)
